a review of 鬼驱人 E tu vivrai nel terrore - L'aldilà (1981)

This is one of those movies I can remember from visits to the video rental store as a youngster, but I never saw it, despite watching tons of horror films in those days. I still think the cover artwork is good, and I decided to finally watch this cult horror flick 34 years after its release. What can I say? I started watching with low expectations, although I like the estranging atmosphere and make-up effects of Fulci's Zombi 2. But this felt like a bunch of kids had spontaneously decided to make a horror movie, resulting in mind-boggling randomness, totally absurd situations and some of the worst acting I've ever witnessed. So in a way this movie is remarkable, but not in the way I had hoped it to be. I can appreciate campiness, but The Beyond is... well... beyond campiness.
