The Day After (1983)

I remember scenes from The Day After being shown on television when I was a kid in 1983. In those Cold War days the nuclear war threat felt like a giant sword of Damocles hanging above the world. I clearly recall the fear I felt as a kid. Decades after the movie aired I finally saw it, and its dreariness still grabbed me, despite the fact that it has become a bit dated. The make-up effects are convincing, and the overall message is still a strong one: World War 3 would be more devastating than any previous war ever was.
