Maestro Del Toro did it again. A gorgeously art-directed reincarnation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale of the misunderstood “monster”. A thought-provoking reflection of mankind’s never-ending lust for control over everything. I also loved to see that Del Toro paid tribute to Bernie Wrightson's magnificently illustrated Frankenstein book. On a minor side-note, I was slightly disappointed by the animals, which were easily recognizable as CGI. A bit of a letdown among the otherwise impeccable visuals.
