When the Wind Blows (1986)When The Wind Blows is an impressive animated tale of an old British couple in the mid-1980s, when nuclear war anxiety was at a high level. Driven by the news, the couple prepares for a nuclear bombing and keeps discussing it in an ironically naive way, even after they’ve survived the blast. Sadly, the subject matter has become more relevant again, particularly in Europe, looking at the Russia-Ukraine war. I loved the poetic daydream interludes, forming a beautiful contrast with the harsh reality of the nuclear events in the animated film. Other recommended anti-nuclear-war classics are… Barefoot Gen (1983): https://letterboxd.com/metinseven/film/barefoot-gen/ The Day After (live action, 1983): https://letterboxd.com/metinseven/film/the-day-after/ Grave of the Fireflies (1988): https://letterboxd.com/metinseven/film/grave-of-the-fireflies/
