a review of 哥斯拉-1.0

Eat that, Jaws! 😆 Godzilla reduces Jaws to a sardine. The CGI was top-notch, especially given the limited budget. I also liked the criticism towards the Japanese government, the allegory Godzilla is for the atom bombings and the aftermath, and the attention to the involved human drama. This gave Godzilla Minus One more depth, instead of being just another monster disaster movie, and it could only be made like this by the Japanese. A minor complaint would be that the lead character was too melodramatic to my taste. It slightly diminished my involvement. ‎ ❗SPOILER AHEAD❗ ‎ ‎ ‎ It was also a slight bummer that the ejection seat twist was made too predictable. But overall, I really liked the classic Spielbergian epic adventure feel and character buildup of Godzilla Minus One.
