a review of 突然死亡

Last time I saw Sudden Death was in the year it was released. For nostalgia's sake I watched it again in 2023, and it was nice to see JCVD in great shape, although his best days were the Bloodsport (1988) days. Sudden Death is an obvious variation upon the Die Hard (1988) formula: one hero in a large construction, fighting against a bunch of bad guys with a sophisticated boss. Other notable examples are Under Siege (1992) and The Raid (2011). Sudden Death felt very 1980s for a mid-1990s film. There are some impressive big budget scenes, and there's a nice tension build-up in the first half. The second half doesn't really satisfy though, as the events get a bit too far-fetched.
