The Private Dirk Bogarde (2001)

i feel rather torn about this as many other viewers did because he went to such lengths to hide his private life. a man who burns almost all of his records as well as writing SEVEN memoirs is someone who wants to control their own narrative. but also watching this in 2025 as a queer person looking for prior histories, it's fascinating. i wish it had talked more about Victim and its impact but it spent a way huge amount of time on Death in Venice which was kind of uncomfortable. also have somehow been on little rabbitholes lately on multiple people born in 1921 who end up living in France? kind of a weird coincidence (Highsmith, Julia Child, Bogarde)
