Gamera: Guardian of the Universe - Review
I have seen this twice now, and I don't exactly love it. The monster design looks a little crummy and their motivations are unexplained. The humans are pretty ineffectual and mostly stand around watching and talking. The subplot with the psychic connection between Gamera and Asagi doesn't really pay off with anything that advances the plot, and while I liked the character of Dr. Nagamine she didn't get to do anything cool either. Part of my sour move was on account of problems with the streaming platform which tacked about twenty minutes of ads over the course of the movie, but that's not the filmmaker's fault. There were some cool miniatures scenes thrown in including the one where the Tokyo tower gets snapped off halfway up, so I am not saying this is without all charm.
