Remember the movies by Roger Corman and Vincent Price based on Poe's stories? Maybe that team and some intensive rewrites could have turned the idea of this flick into a proper cult classic.

Sadly, that wasn't the case, The Asphyx has all of the cheese and none of the charm.

Sometimes fun over the top violence, with music, lots of colour and an unexpected commentary about Big Tech's power and our supply chain. I liked it better than Bullet Train and a lot more than Snakes on a Plane.

6.7 (36 ratings) director: Drew Hancock actor: Sophie Tatcher / Jack Quaid
other title: Acompanhante Perfeita / Companion - Die perfekte Begleitung
Companion was won by New Line in a hot horror auction near the beginning of the year. It was initially going to act as BoulderLight and Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian before the filmmaker switched tracks to focus on his own script, Weapons, also now casting and at New Line. But the team helped Companion land not just a home but greenlit the start of production, backing Hancock to make his directorial debut.
Feb. 21, 2025 watched This will offend the Jordan Peterson's fanboy type, which is a plus, but seems a bit... off. Not sure if this is the right way to tackle the heavy topics this movie ends up talking about. Does it try to be feminist but fails? Does it get it right but, as a movie, it isn't that good? I don't know enough to tell.

Not rating it because I'm not sure about how many stars it should get, not because it's a zero stars flick. Also, I hate rating things.

I'm not a whodunnit kind of guy, but this? I loved it. A mid budget film, great cast where every single face is fun to watch, carefully lit, colourful but thanks to its production design instead of forced digital grading, some self aware jokes that actually land, killer dialog for Adrien Brody, Pemberton nails most of the soundtrack... everything that's missing from most movies today, the precise things I like, this flick has them.

I could say that the first act is better than the rest, or compare it to Knives Out / Glass Onion, or that sometimes the shots are a bit too Wesandersony, but I'm just grateful these kind of movies are still a thing.
