At the moment it's "Pirates of Rosinante" (which has not aged well), "Space Mission Analysis and Design" (Getting ready for new job), and "On Freedom" (waves arms at world).

Interesting on your dad. Mine had a shelf now that I think of it but I never saw him read anything
@jwilker @bookstodon @reading I prefer to make things, or learn how things are made or work, in my spare time. So even if I had the attention span to read a novel, I might still prefer to build things. It's a bummer, because I love sci-fi and fantasy!
Oh, speaking of which, I have to listened to a handful of such ebooks in the last 20 years, on top of that book or two haha.
@jwilker @bookstodon @reading I was more of a reader when I was a kid, but I think I've only read one or two books for fun since I graduated high school a couple decades ago 😅 I did lots of dense, technical reading in college, but it was rarely fun for me. I do lots of that in my career, as well.
Come to find out about a year ago, I have ADHD! Lots of things make a lot of sense with that diagnosis! No wonder my eyes would glaze over a couple sentences in, repeatedly until I gave up!
I love children's books, one reason for it is that #KidLit always goes harder than it needs to, reaching deep into what we all -kids and adults- need to hear, saying it in the most accessible way.

I've always preferred morally flawed characters, or even downright evil, but I don't like irritating, which was my first impression.
I may be one of the few people who think The Goonies is the worst film in the world.
But i will give it a try.

Thought it was rubbish, personally
it IS the story of a whiny over privileged little shit & it's never been a secret that's what it is so you have to enjoy reading stories from the point of view of someone objectively awful
such books are common now & many are better written BUT for many teenagers it was the first book they read with an anti-hero so it hits harder & seems fresh
way more fun books in the genre now or what's a Bret Easton Ellis for?
(i often enjoy this genre, maybe it's my sense of humor)
