Fan Xian, born in the Southern Qing empire with memories of the 21st century, is the illegitimate son of the Minister of Finance. Raised by his grandmother after his mother, inventor Ye Qing Mei, was killed, he learns martial arts and poison techniques under her bodyguard, the blind Wu Zhu.

After surviving an assassination attempt, Fan Xian goes to the capital to uncover the truth about his mother and his memories. There, he falls in love with Lin Wan Er, the woman the emperor has chosen to be his wife. Caught in political intrigue, Fan Xian must confront his identity and purpose.
