Out On a Limb
I was camped in Yosemite in February when I captured this. So much snow coming down that anything in the distance was blocked by snow. When you can't shoot at a distance you need to change focus and find something nearby and close-up.
Playing around with this oak tree and I liked how all of the branches seemed to go every which way creating an abstract of tree limbs and snow.

Out On A Limb

Imagine standing in the middle of a quiet winter forest during a heavy snowfall. The world around you has gone still—sound is muffled, and the air feels thick with cold. In front of you is a large oak tree, but instead of seeing a single trunk and a few branches, you’re surrounded by what feels like a tangled web of limbs stretching in every direction.

The photograph captures this oak tree up close, so close that the branches fill the entire frame. Each branch twists and forks unpredictably, creating a maze-like pattern—almost like a nest of lines scribbled across a white canvas. Fresh snow clings to every limb, softening their edges and adding bright white highlights against the darker wood.

There is no sky, no ground, no background—just an abstract tangle of snowy branches. The effect is both chaotic and calming, like nature’s own piece of modern art. The snow makes everything feel hushed and intimate, as if you’re standing inches away from the tree during a gentle whiteout.
