Winter in the Valley

Stoneman Bridge in Yosemite Valley is a popular spot for photographers and painters alike. Looking up to the Northeast the Merced River flows down from Happy Isle and crosses in Front of Half Dome. To the south you can follow the river down along the eastern walls of the valley.

Winter In The Valley

A quiet winter hush settles over Yosemite Valley in this scene. Fresh snow softens every surface, turning the landscape into a world of muted whites and silvers. The Merced River moves slowly through the frame, its dark, glassy surface reflecting the pale sky like a strip of polished obsidian. Along the riverbank, snow-laden pines lean inward, their branches heavy and still, absorbing sound the way thick velvet absorbs light.

👋 This winter, ❄️ if you find an opossum in your garage please leave the door open a crack, don't call animal control.
They are trying to warm up and will leave on their own.
👉 edit: Correction: Apparently this is incorrect. We can find this stated as fact throughout many publications ➡️ They are nature's Lyme Disease Control-eating 5,000 ticks per year⬅️ but it was based on an incomplete study. We too hae strachilt lik The Bruce
and hacked up turkey, duck and goose;

Looks like the snow has started here. If we do end up with the 12-18 inches the advisories have been warning about, it'll be a mess.

On the bright side, lately I've been doing a lot of informal thinking while shoveling snow. I'm turning over an informal argument grounded on Chaitin incompleteness that if our physical universe has continuous space-time, then we must make non-computable leaps in our theories in order to increase the fidelity of our understanding. "Artificial scientists" running on computers will always have inescapable limits that don't apply to human beings. It's exactly the sort of wacky thing that makes for good shovel thinking: it passes the time, and there might be something in there that's more than passing theoretical fancy.
