I had a chance to witness the Great Blue Herons elaborate courtship rituals at the Everett Marina in Washington state recently.
Although they don't mate for life, they form a close bond for a breeding season.
The male picks the nest site and attracts a female, e.g. with offering twigs, if she accepts them its a sure sign of success and they go on displaying other types of courtship rituals.
In this capture the male just returns to the chosen nest site and offers a twig, the partner will be arranging the nest after accepting it.
Fascinating to observe their coded behavior.

In this capture the male displays neck stretching as a part of the courtship rituals to attract the female's attention and actually it looks like they're doing the tango.

I find Coyotes beautiful in spite of their bad reputation. It’s exciting to find and capture them.
