Not that I want to be anti-social, but when I visit beautiful places like Zion National Park in Utah, USA, I like to leave the crowds.

And while it's difficult to do in popular spots (Zion gets some 4-5 million visitors per year), if you find the trails that aren't listed on the visitor brochures, you'll quite often succeed.

As a child, I did not do well with the box of rocks in the geology session of science class. Separated from their environment, neatly docketed in their little spaces, they little held my interest.

But out in the real world where the rocks "lived," I was fascinated by their texture and form, color, placement, shape.
