Prompt: When was the first time you felt like Toronto was home?
Many firsts, each with a different definition of Toronto.
- First best friend in elementary school.
- First time I came back as an adult to experience the city. Never really ever went down town until then.
- Every time I moved back to the city and fall in love with this place again.
- Moving downtown and experiencing the real vibe of a walkable neighbourhood and accessible transit.
- Working on a municipal campaign to understand the full size and scale of this city (and all of its complexities and needs)
- Every time I make a new friend fall in love with this place too.
This is my home. I like Toronto.
Did you know that the Toronto Zoo used to run a monorail (ish)?
The 5.6km transit system closed down in 1994. However the concrete structure that supported the rail is still around in the middle of the forest near Scarborough/Rouge Park.
I knew it was reachable because of an old reddit post and also because we can see it from Google Maps.
But I didn't know "how" to get there. So with a few friends we decided to find out

Hopefully this will be a timeline cleanser for some today. Just got back from the Toronto International Jazz Festival. Took a chance and went to what ended up being a sold out concert of this artist: Afrooj Aftab. It was a delightful event. What a great voice. The link below is to her Tiny Desk performance on NPR. Enjoy. Direct link: https://youtu.be/ZUYJ8_tBSSQ
