If you set a #Threads profile to followers-only, then write a post that tags someone who doesn't follow you — not replying to their post, just a plain old post that tags them — can that person see what you wrote?

(Not advocating for Threads, am just trying to understand their privacy model.)

体验了市面大部分替代 X 的去中心化平台：

mastodon 体验还行，比较依赖实例站长的维护，关站账号会没，目前内容大多是碎碎念的树洞文。

bluesky 体验最接近 twitter，但中文的内容较少，优势是 AT 可以无缝迁移账号，且可绑定自己的域名挺酷的。

nostr 太过极客，添加个好友还需要一串公钥（可能我不会），客户端不够流畅。

threads 感觉小扎要把所有的社交类型都要涉及遍了，已有 ins 不想在用 fb 系产品了，目前注销了。

X 中心化，内容太丰富，停不下来。

Yesterday morning I was flipping through my Mastodon timeline via Flipboard and I saw a post from @gtconway3.

@tchambers had boosted George's post using whatever app Tim likes to use to these days (I suspect @phanpy though it could just as easily have been the native Mastodon app, @mammoth, @ivory, or @IceCubesApp)

I tapped on George's profile and saw he was posting from #Threads. I tapped the follow button and now I see his latest posts in Mastodon and Flipboard.

There's a whole new array of apps, people and posts in the fediverse and it all just works. It's wonderful.

#Fediverse FTW.

😂 That was odd! When I mentioned @darnell@flipboard.com on my #WordPress blog, it pinged my #Flipboard account on my iPhone even though #ActivityPub is not yet activated (I received a push notification, which later revealed nothing 😆).

If it pings again via #Mastodon, I might do various tests upon other #Fediverse accounts (like #Misskey & #Threads).

Threads is the largest player so far to adopt #ActivityPub, and as @mike says, “The implications are huge.”

In order for the open social web to happen at scale, lots of companies and apps, big and small, need to adopt #ActivityPub. Threads is the largest player so far to do this and the implications are huge.

Why is #Threads doing this? Is federation just another feature or is it foundational to their entire experience? How is the Threads team thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward?

Like #Threads & #Ghost, Flipboard is beta testing #ActivityPub on its main site.

I believe Flipboard will prove to be a counterweight to Threads and a prime location for news & pundits (as #Meta does not really desire the latter two on their platforms).

Just a note saying how my #Fediverse experience has been made immeasurably richer for being able to take in & engage w/ carefully curated #Threads users, #BlueSky bridged users, #WordPress ActivityPub enabled blogs, #Flipboard Federated accounts, bridged #Podcast episodes, #PixelFed photos, & Peertube videos. All from one Mastodon account.

I'm grateful for the moderation tools to mute, block and curate all of this, and the Mastodon lists to make them all digestable and not just info overload.

#Threads, on the other hand, is a different story, the API is quite limited and requires business verification to serve users not yourself.

Code is done but probably will not be enabled given how complex the biz review process is.

My best guess is that he went to the Milo Yiannopoulis school of gay stereotypes, just picked some at random and said “eh- good enough” in a last-ditch attempt to garner sympathy points when he is so obviously in the wrong even in his own fucking story.

I did not have a “love of musicals & theatre” when I was four, because y’know… I was fucking four. I did not know what these things were. My earliest real experience with musicals was when my twin brother had a hamilton phase in 8th/9th grade and overplayed it so much in the car to the point where for a long time I swore off the entire genre.

I never picked out jackets for him to wear and I was most certainly not calling them “fabulous” because literally what the fuck. I did not use the word fabulous when I was four because once again I would like to reiterate… I was four. @mosseri just announced that #Threads users can finally follow fediverse accounts. Which means you can now reach 200M people from your Mastodon account without ever using Threads yourself. True decentralization happens on the fediverse!

I've created a separate Mastodon account on an instance which allows Threads and it's going pretty well - I can now see Threads posts from a bunch of people I lost track of after Twitter went down and we scattered to the four winds.

The biggest impediment is that Threads users have to go into their settings and enable Fediverse sharing, so I've had to email various people to request they turn that on. Also at this stage I think the Threads users I follow can't see my replies to their posts, but that apparently will come.

I'm very keen to follow people on Threads and Bluesky (via the bridge) without ever having to sign up for those services! Hope that becomes better and easier.
