She is the director of joy and good feels here in our tiny world.
Today she wanted to negotiate. I agreed to bake peanut butter Summer treats and she volunteered to help me change the beds.
She is an expert at getting the pillowcases to the laundry room.
I guess I'd better get busy on my end of the deal.

Here I go again posting the mundane happenings of our simple lives. I saw a toot yesterday where a person was bemoaning how boring it is to read about plain old everyday stuff on Mastodon.
No razzle dazzle on this timeline just Summer and I as we scurry down the road for another early morning adventure.
I told Summer how lucky we are to live our not very exciting lives in this beautiful place.
Maybe in the grand scheme of things all that excitement we don't experience goes to critters who are more deserving.
Who knows for sure why we ended up here and everyone else there?
I asked Summer what she thinks.
She says that personally she is happy to accept that she is where she is meant to be.

I spent a lot of time as a child, wandering through meadows, staring at the sky, exploring my surroundings, daydreaming about the future.
I also spent a lot of time, at home, watching TV.
One was a waste of time, lost moments that could have been spent doing something, anything, of greater worth.
The other wasn't wasted time. Thinking never is.

I had just carried my third laundry basket of clean folded clothes upstairs.
Summer and her pal followed me up.
She was in an adjoining bedroom and appeared to be ready to eat a pill sized, light colored something on the floor.
I panicked because I immediately thought that she had gotten one of my husband's pills.
I executed a full body dive for that little oblong thing like I was playing center field and making the play of the game. My whole body was airborne.
Summer was shocked.
I was sure I saved her life.
But.
It was only a jelly belly.
My husband had treated himself to a handful and must have dropped one.
Summer says she wonders about me sometimes.
I don't blame her.

Summer was excited for an early adventure this morning. I think that prioritizing a fitness schedule for her will mean getting out early every day. The crack of dawn is the only time left available in my schedule.
We headed off to the beach because she is restricted from swimming until her ear infection is cleared up.
We had great fun. She stayed dry, I walked two plus miles and she ran for at least an hour.
Summer was happy as a clam and so is grandma.

Poor Summer.
She doesn't like the medicine that treats her ear infection.
She says ears should be off limits.
Even so she trusts me enough to let me stick a tube where the medicine needs to do it's work.
Only three more doses after this one.

One chore that belonged on our to-do list wasn't there.
My mistake.
I'm not perfect.
Summer was anxious to see the cardboard hauled to the transfer station to be recycled.
This is by far and away her favorite job so she filed an official request and we bumped cardboard flattening right to the top of the list.
One more thing done.
Summer came along for the ride so she could say hello to the chickens who live at the recycle center. They pay zero attention to her.

Summer knows somethings up.
She is guarding the front door.
This morning we are supposed to get our new VOIP phone service set up.
I gave up on getting our landline repaired. I tried but it was hopeless.
We had to agree to contain our dog while the repair person is on the premises.
The person won't know what they are missing. She is very friendly.

We are feeling really good this morning.
My cup of coffee is perfect.
Summer is warm, soft and so, so sweet.
I count on this cuddle to get me going and she never lets me down.
Summer says she needs me, too. Awe.
Today, we need all of the gumption we can muster to clean up and mow our front acre before the rains come.
Summer assures me we've got this.
Yesterday, we found out that we are approved for a grant to earthquake retrofit our foundation. I think I found a contractor to do it, fingers crossed. When you live in the middle of nowhere the friend, of a friend, connection might be the best one to have.
On top of that I found someone to fix our furnace and get us winter ready.
Summer says we make a great team.
I told her that I would be on her team any day.

Yesterday was a long day for us.
We spent the whole morning at the VA medical clinic.
No matter how many times you hear that your condition will not be getting better it is still hard to accept.
Today is rainy and cold. As soon as I saw the sky open up over the ocean I bundled everyone into the truck to chase some fresh air. The truck takes us right to the ocean, without passing go. We use the designated access roads without actually dropping on to the beach. It works perfectly to accommodate mobility limitations.
Summer was a happy dog.
We all benefit from these small outdoor adventures and getting a break from unpleasant realities we can leave for later.

She tucks herself between her pal's feet and his recliner. He rubs her belly while she plays with her favorite old purple garden glove.
It cracks me up when she wiggles her way under his legs and immediately flips on her back.

I didn't realize that upgrading the cell phones for six people would be so complicated.
It took a family meeting, a spreadsheet, and a phone call with customer service.
Trying to prioritize our wants and needs against the cost and hard sell service provider tactics.
We finally figured it out.
I am old enough to remember when my whole family shared one phone on the wall and we all knew each other's business for better or worse.
I don't tell the grandkids that, because it sounds too much like walking to school up hill both ways.
Sometimes, I wonder how I ever got so dependent on a device that shares my personal information with goodness knows who.
