LGBT History lesson!
There have been a lot of events peppered throughout history that were frog leaps toward #LGBT rights. These led up to the full on push in the 1970s that brought gay rights into the U.S. national conversation. These radical acts began the decades long push toward LGBT equality and social change.
The big one was the Stonewall Uprising but did you know there was a riot that happened almost three years prior to #Stonewall ?... the Riot at Compton's Cafeteria. Stonewall is often thought of as the event that started the modern gay rights movement but Compton's was equally important.
The Riot at Compton's Cafeteria happened in August of 1966 in San Fran's Tenderloin District. And why did this happen?... because #ACAB Drag queens and trans women had finally had enough.
The first #Pride was a riot!

The National Park Service is misremembering #Stonewall. We're here to help correct their mistakes! All of the original content for the Stonewall National Monument has been republished at https://realstonewall.com
A reminder to all the TERFs and transphobic queers out there that the first Pride was a riot, literally. And it was led by transwomen and drag queens, including Marsha P. Johnson, as well as lesbians, who refused to submit to police bodily searches during a raid on the Stonewall Inn night club, and who fought back during the cops' attempts to mass arrest patrons and community members.

Fifty-six years of progress, being undone in less than 6 months. But we persist, and we will rise! Happy Stonewall Day!
