TOS scene. We're in a cave that also has a wall and a far off door carved into it. It's a technicolored cave, lit in purples, reds, blues, and greens. I'm not entirely sure why, but someone was trippin' balls on set that day. Ok, so Kirk is hiding behind a corner up close to the camera, and further away in a different part of the technicolor dream cave is a swol and very tall bald alien. He looks menacing despite wearing a cream green long jacket over a weird flared collared shirt. Back to Kirk, he has a...hmm...so he's holding a large rock to use as a weapon, yeah that's it. It's an oddly long rock though, maybe baseball bat length but with way more girth. And it's pointing upward, with extra "rockage" near the base. (It looks like a dong.)

I was at DragonCon one year when Avery Brooks was on a panel, and a Black dude stood up and talked about how the year DS9 came on, he became the sole custodial guardian of his small son, and he was
"terrified* and felt helpless, because he hadn't really had a father himself, and he didn't really know any Black fathers he particularly wanted to emulate, and no Black single fathers at all. He talked about how every week he'd put his kid to bed and sit down and watch Deep Space Nine, and think to himself, "Okay, this, I want us to be this kind of father and son," and how, silly as it might sound, the Idea that Ben could be there for Jake, all the time, successfully, and ear his admiration and trust, was the only source he really had of inspiration, the only voice that was telling him he could handle this job.
I swear to fuck there was a whole auditorium of people in tears by the time he was done, including both him and Brooks, It was one of the most beautiful moments | ever saw about the sometimes bloodless-sounding term "representation," and about fandom in general, and I will never forget it.

I'm playing around with an LCARS colour theme for @novelwriter, based on the colours of the display screens on Star Trek TNG and related shows.

Of course, since it is a text app, the layout doesn't look anything like LCARS, so it kind of works and it kind of doesn't. 😅

Edit: Dropped the green colour and updated the screenshot. That helped a bit.

I am not doing good at time management or indeed any approximation of knowing what day it is, but today was the last day to drop off art for the Somerville Open Studios and I managed to get this done just in time. Despite 1) running out of black thread (howwwww) and 2) goofing up the insignia the first time. Still. She looks good.

I probably did not need to agonize as much as I did over whether it’s the right shade of teal/blue but who am I even if I can’t overthink things.
