Winter in the Valley

Stoneman Bridge in Yosemite Valley is a popular spot for photographers and painters alike. Looking up to the Northeast the Merced River flows down from Happy Isle and crosses in Front of Half Dome. To the south you can follow the river down along the eastern walls of the valley.

Winter In The Valley

A quiet winter hush settles over Yosemite Valley in this scene. Fresh snow softens every surface, turning the landscape into a world of muted whites and silvers. SYNOPSIS (Sunday evening): An upper level trough will remain parked over western Washington throughout the week.

Below normal temperatures with brisk wind chills and continuing snow showers are expected at times in most areas.

Gusty Fraser River outflow winds will begin tonight and continue into at least Wednesday

Scattered snow showers continue to spin around an upper-low centered over BC this evening. For tonight, Hi-res guidance is persistent on painting showers across W WA into Monday morning.

Significant accumulation isn't expected but, locally lowered visibility and adverse road conditions are possible under heavier bursts of snowfall. Any lingering roadway moisture is subject to freezing causing a concern for black ice during the Monday morning commute.

Ended up shoveling snow twice today. It looks like we might have gotten 6 inches/15 cm of snow in a 5 hour stretch. It was cold enough I developed icicles on my facial hair.

The forecast claims we're due for roughly the same amount on Sunday. At least on Sunday we don't need to go anywhere by car and can take our time with the shoveling.

We had a bit of snow over the weekend (roughly a foot? on top of what was already down), and then two days of winds gusting as high as 25 mph (guess). The snow pack is blue-ish and topped with waves. It's reached the point where we'll need to use snow shoes to walk in it.
