Pope Leo's first appointment for US Bishop, an immigrant himself, is asking priests in his diocese of #SanDiego #California to go with immigrants to #immigration court in an effort to influence public opinion and maybe protect the people from #ICE.

"On th emorning of June 20th, which is Internation REfugee Day, a group of priests and faith leaders are plannign to visit the federal court building to stand in solidarity with migrants who are making their court appearances. We know that migrants and refugees find themselves in the difficult predicament of being called to appear, which is what the government asks of them, and then being given orders for expedited removal from our country.
"This group of priests and faith leaders will simply be present during this process as it has been experienced that the presence of faith leaders makes a difference in how the migrants are treated. Unfortunately, it will most likely not change the outcome. Following the court appearances, the faith leaders will have a press conference so that the clear message that people of faith stand with immigrants and refugees can be delivered to the broader public.
"They will gather at 7am and conclude by 10am. If you feel moved to participate, please notify either of the following:

What a turnout for #nokings in #sandiego .
The trolley going down was jam packed... I thought I was going to be early, but I suppose everyone else had the same thought!
Good to see so many people peacefully walking, talking, and sharing their amusing signs. I was nowhere near the front of the march, but ended at Waterfront Park, went to a friend's apartment for a drink, and there was still a giant stream of people protesting! (See pic).
This is what democracy looks like.
Had dinner on the beach and did some seal watching. Territorial little stinkers! Some humans were way too comfortable getting close.
