It's been two years since the grandkids showed up at our house with a gift of four new rose bushes. The only challenge was where to fit them in.
Three were planted among our existing bushes.
One grandson decided to put his further afield, on the other side of Summer's front acre. Unfortunately, even though it seemed like a good idea to brighten up a totally different spot the rose didn't like it. Too much wind, not enough sun and poor soil.
After two seasons of no blooms I dug up the rose and transplanted it into a giant pot. A sheltered and sunny spot was secured, and I watered it faithfully. I was ready to accept a poor outcome when it sprouted new leaves and a bud.
The rose was going to survive.
Today that bud is a huge flower. The color is uniquely spectacular.
I can honestly tell the kids that all of the roses are thriving.
