I've been thinking today about one of my favourite audiobooks: The Trouble with Angels, which I narrated as Eden Cavell, about a naive divorcee who makes a fresh start when two hot Daddy Doms take her under their wing.
It's a good book for people who are interested in my work who don't like romance! It's big-hearted and genuinely funny.

A doomed romance in early 20th century Japan. Interminably slow, with frequent tangential digressions into philosophy and description. Nearly gave up but something finally happened 100 pages in. The climax verges on the tragi-comic, but it's mostly just brooding & hopeless. I was intrigued by the nobleman who is so elegant that problems solve themselves, hence effortlessly maintaining said elegance.

I have a lot of thoughts about that Daniel Green video where he covers that absolutely shit article by the New York Times about the Romance author turned prompter. His comment section is full of the anti-romance slop I see on a daily basis, but even he, in the video, fell into the trap that Romance is just bland formulaic porn, which, yawn, but the most interesting thing to me about this whole thing is the author just giving up. Quite literally. She just chose to quit playing the game, quit trying to improve, she just chose to quit writing altogether because the industry could not support her at all so now she generates everything. I honestly can’t express how sad that is. I can’t even put into words house sad that is. There is a much larger story here than her just using an LLM, except of course, the New York Times has terrible reporters that don’t know how to ask complex questions so the article reads like a vapid snooze fest. The whole thing just makes me profoundly sad! And I hate this whole thing is just another excuse to shit on romance reader some more. This prompter even said, I don’t need to worry, because in a few years, readers won’t care about what they are reading. I can’t express how profoundly sad this whole thing makes me. I do have to thank #AI for one thing. Some bit of writing that is just obviously fun or a torrent of vast emotions? Something that was clearly written because the author really enjoyed it? I’m loving that kind of beautiful art even if it has plot holes. I read a #Romance book recently where it was a joy to feel where the author was going, even if they swerved the Grumpy character archetype a little. I just really enjoyed reading this thing that I know the author had a really good time creating.
