10% into #Reading "Indo-European Language and Culture: An Introduction" and really enjoying it. BUT I assumed the exercises would have answers! 😱 In the one below, the reader is asked if any of these languages are not related to the others. I was chuffed to identify 1, Hawaiian (I think) , by the similarities to Māori. But I'd love to know what all the languages ARE. I suspect there may be Greek, Albanian and Romany in the list, but would love to KNOW 😭 #linguistics #bookstodon @bookstodon

Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. This is a very well written book but geez is it bleak. Honestly I think it will age well as a record of modern war but right now it’s not exactly what I want for my recreational #reading. A new #Introduction for my 1-year anniversary on Mastodon. I find Mastodon much more welcoming than those corporate owned social media platforms. Currently living in beautiful #France with my lovely wife. I mostly share my love of #Movies and #Photography . I also love #Reading #Fiction (one of my 2026 projects is a slow re-read of Les Miserables) and #NonFiction and I do some #Writing on #Creativity and pop culture. Basically if you’re a decent person, I’m happy to connect here.

“Books are probes sent into deep space, seeking other sentient life; readers are the sentinels watching the night sky, like huge radar complexes, but with eyes and ears and feelings" (Janna Malamud Smith).
(I know I'm a little late for SundaySentence, but I really meant to post this yesterday. Really.)
I started reading book one in the Rivers of London series but then I realised there were prequels.
Now I just finished The Masquerades of Spring, and I'm glad I did as the main character reminded me a bit of Bertie Wooster from P. G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster 😁

Currently #Reading "Indo-European Language and Culture" and it's just awesome. A fantastic introduction to (P)IE linguistics, written as textbook but with non-students in mind too, and occasional flashes of dry humour, as below

Alternatively, connection with an Etruscan god with the unfortunate name Crap has also been suggested, but we know nothing about this deity – which might be a good thing.
I'm currently #Reading Folsom's "Indo-European and Culture" A discussion elsewhere about P. I. E reconstruction prompted A question for #linguistics experts, especially those who know their P.I.E
How would "I come in peace" be reconstructed in P.I.E ?
