Just a quick reminder...
If you’ve read my book, 'Drystone - A Life Rebuilt' I’d be grateful if you left a review wherever you prefer.
This isn’t a plea for 5 star ratings; it’s a request for honesty. Books are personal: I dislike plenty, feel neutral about many, and love a few. Whatever your response, reviews really help. A wall of 5-stars is wonderful, but it can also feel suspicious to readers. A mix of perspectives shows the book is being read seriously.
‘Deeply concerning’: reading for fun in the US has fallen by 40%, new study says
"Over the last 20 years, the number of Americans who read daily for pleasure has seen a considerable decline"

with a link to its beginning in the interview.
I chose to hand-transcribe it to remove (and probably introduce) discontinuities.
A central theme is the tyrannies of programming libraries and the question of having exhaustive knowledge of your increasingly numerous dead forebearers.
Read it yourself (and/or listen finally).
I sometimes thought my father thought he could't die while he still had books on his pending pile (a stab at immortality I seem to be replicating)... so, it was strangely touching to see Tom Gauld has had similar thoughts.

Not bad for a guy who couldn’t make proper tea.
(看到的时候我内心吐槽道 Not bad for a guy who tried to mansplain what’s proper tea.
How to win friends and influence fungi

I need this machine really badly.
I can't believe that Project Gutenberg has 74k+ FREE ebooks that I can just download if I want 😃
Pretty amazing 😁
What counts as reading?
In my post, I reflect on my relationship with reading and reading contests to think through how gamification influences what we count as real reading, among many other factors.

Do you track your reading habits? "Like the things we eat or the ways we move our bodies, the books we consume get talked about as yet another avenue for self-improvement," writes Tajja Isen for The Walrus. Here's her story about the problem with reading lists, and a way to make them useful and even lead to more enjoyment. Tell us in the comments what you think — and if you track, why.

#reading
Omgggg!! I just discovered that Project Gutenberg has an automated feed on #Mastodon where they post new books they add!
Go follow them: @gutenberg_new
Here is my #introduction because I’m #newhere.
Like so many others, I’m a refugee from Meta/X. Mastodon is giving me some hope that I might find a #community in social media. Happily married. Resident of Florida but currently on slow travel in Costa Rica. My passions are: #writing – my web site (link in profile) has info on my novels and occasional #popculture essays - #movies , #reading #fiction and #nonfiction , and #photography
I look forward to connecting with the Mastodon community!
Sure, but does anyone start reading the classics? Reading on any level should be encouraged 😊
