The Cyberiad by Stanislaw Lem has to be the most far-out book I've ever read. It feels like super-human writing. And for all its inventiveness it makes no effort to justify itself. Reading this was an experience I'll never forget, but I am looking forward to returning to the human plane of reading.

In The Defense, Nabokov’s language is, as always, rich, sharp, and full of vivid imagery and wordplay.

The characters, however, feel strangely soulless and do not inspire sympathy. It even seems that the author treats them with a kind of superiority bordering on contempt.

写得没有特别严谨而且有些废话 could have been a blog，案例也有些神乎其神了，但瑕不掩瑜，毕竟提供的小窍门简单易行而且没有铺垫的前六块饼直接告诉你该干嘛可能真的不会那么重视，就像先前看「Why We Sleep」一样——谁不知道睡眠/血糖重要啊，但不真的老老实实看本书下来可能真的不会去做出实际改变。而且本书给的平缓血糖曲线的建议都相对简单易行而且对基本健康的人没什么副作用，书本身也很短且平易近人容易读，看了绝对利大于弊（中评的可以理解，但打超低分的怕不是反畅销书反魔障了……）。几条比较好实施的：咸味食物代替甜食，整水果远好于果汁，餐前纤维（我不爱把蔬菜单挑出来吃但搞点坚果饭前吃一把很容易），喝掺醋水，餐后 70 分钟内运动（走路深蹲就行），零食和正餐一起使身体少在“餐后”状态。

意外惊喜超出预期。看之前最好对书中的主人公和作者本身都没有任何了解也别看剧透（没想到纪实文学还能读出这种悬疑感）。按说我既不爱看人物传记，对科学史的兴趣也远不如知识本身，更不爱看科普的时候掺杂作者个人经历，更更不爱看讲故事动不动开始上价值把自身情感和信念投射到历史/人物本身上。这书四项全占但没想到我看得津津有味甚至有时候得睡觉了还恨不得多读几页，可见 storytelling 有多好。主人公的转折关键词一出真是看得头皮发麻了没有想到是这个走向。逐渐开始增加的作者现代线和历史系线节奏恰到好处，作者本身后来的自身转折则颇有一种没想到但“果然”的 relatable。甚至附加到故事上的情感价值所推向的宿命感看得人还有点热血澎湃了。喜欢的程度是虽然中译版也不错但意犹未尽有点想再看原版的程度。强推
