RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A motion has been filed for an injunction to remove former President Donald Trump from presidential primary ballots in Virginia in 2024.
The motion, which was filed on Monday, Dec. 18 in district court in Alexandria by Roy L. Perry-Bey of Hampton, alleges that Trump is “constitutionally ineligible under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment” to run for federal office “based on his engagement in insurrection against the United States” following the 2020 presidential election.
Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021, emboldened by Trump’s unproven claims that the recent election was marred with fraud. He is currently set to stand trial, facing numerous charges, as the U.S. Department of Justice works to prove that he was directly responsible for the violence that day.
“Mr. Trump has declared his candidacy for president again in 2024,” reads the motion. “However, under the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Mr. Trump is constitutionally ineligible to appear on any future ballot for federal office based on his engagement in insurrection against the United States.”

A Paris court Thursday sentenced fmr French President Nicolas #Sarkozy to 5 years in #prison after finding him #guilty of #criminal #conspiracy in an alleged scheme to finance his 2007 campaign with funds from #Libya.
In a surprise decision, the court ruled that he will be incarcerated even if he appeals. But it also said the sentencing date would take place at a later time, sparing the 70-yr-old the humiliation of being led from the courtroom in handcuffs.

The experience depends on diverse factors, including the quality of the parent-child relationship prior to incarceration, the degree of household stability following the incarceration, and the child’s age, individual personality and others.

As of today, 1 in 28 children in the United States have a parent behind bars. For African American children, that number is 1 in 9. The #average term being served by incarcerated parents is 80 months.

For-profit prisons have created a “neo-slavery” in the US, according to award-winning journalist Chris Hedges. Inmates work eight hours per day for major corporations such as Chevron, #Motorola, #Nordstrom’s and Target, yet only have the possibility of making up to $1.25 an hour. In addition, companies that provide services like phone calls overcharge prisoners on even the most basic services, making hundreds of millions in profits annually. 5. #Children of the #Incarcerated | There is no single story that describes what it is like for a #child to have a #parent who is #incarcerated. The experience depends on diverse factors, including the quality of the parent-child relationship prior to incarceration, the degree of household stability following the incarceration, and the child’s age, individual personality and others.
That being said some International human rights advocates have called #parental_incarceration "the greatest #threat to child #well_being in the #US. As of today, 1 in 28 children in the United States have a parent behind bars. For African American children, that number is 1 in 9. The #average term being served by incarcerated parents is 80 months.
Each year the number of children with incarcerated parents continue to #grow as a result of the record prison population in the #United_States. On this edition of #Inside_Out we talk to Shaquille Mualimm-ak, from #incarceratednationcampaign.org about his experience coping with having a parent behind #bars.
