Port Side Of The Pt Reyes

The Pt Reyes has been one of my favorite photographic subjects ever since I came across her on the shore of Tomales Bay many years ago. When I first shot her I didn't really know the significance of the boat and why she was there.
To this day I don't really know much about her. What I do know is that over the last 5-7 years I have watched her slowly deteriorate.

The Port Side Of The Point Reyes

Imagine standing on the quiet shore of Tomales Bay in California. Before you lies the weathered hull of an old fishing boat named Pt Reyes, grounded and leaning slightly to one side. Her port side—the left side when facing forward—is exposed to the viewer. The boat’s paint is faded, peeling, and sun-bleached, revealing years of wear and exposure to the elements. The stern, or back of the boat, is charred and damaged, a haunting reminder of a recent fire that hastened her decay.
Surrounding her is a tranquil coastal landscape. The sky above is soft and open, tinged with blue and gray, and the beach is quiet, with hints of driftwood or grasses nearby. There's a sense of solitude and reverence in the image, as if the boat is resting in her final chapter, slowly surrendering to time.
