#art #portrait #neurodivergence I just found out why I mainly sketch portraits from imagination almost never from reference. It's because of the incredible stress I feel trying to be true to the reference. I respect these references very much. They are people after all. And there is a whole person behind that face. And this person I would have to channel onto the paper. In its entirety. Pretty much. Which is of course, not possible. And not even something I want.
It takes so much detaching for me to simplify and just use reference as inspiration.
That's one reason. Another reason of course is, that there are all these people living in my imagination, that want out.
Yeah, I know, I'm weird. There is a lot of autistic hyperempathy and OCD and hypersensitivity and impracticality in this.
but now that I realized, I can make a habit out of detaching consciously. Because frankly, for figuredrawing you just need reference. As long as you care if it looks like real people at least. Maybe I do, Maybe I don't , but I'd like to have a decision in that.
