Robert Browning's book Asolando; Fancies and facts is published on the same day he dies at Ca' Rezzonico in Venice. He is buried in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey.
His magnum opus, The Ring and the Book (1868–1869), is a 12-volume epic poem based on a real-life Italian murder trial. He is particularly celebrated for his dramatic monologues, which reveal the inner workings of his characters' minds.

Façade – An Entertainment, poems by Edith Sitwell recited over an instrumental accompaniment by William Walton, are first performed, privately in London.
Sitwell began to publish some of the Façade poems in 1918, in the literary magazine Wheels. In 1922 many of them were given an orchestral accompaniment by Walton, Sitwell's protégé.

Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt , who died #OTD in 1919, was an American poet. She published hundreds of poems in nationally circulated newspapers, magazines, and anthologies as well as in eighteen volumes of poems, two of which she co-authored with her husband, the poet John James Piatt.

The poem contains elements thought to be autobiographical, as Byron generated some of the storyline from experience gained during his travels through Portugal, the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea between 1809 and 1811.

American Surrealist artist and poet Kay Sage died #OTD in 1963.
Kay Sage became deeply involved with the Surrealist movement after moving to Paris in the late 1930s.
Her paintings often feature architectural and industrial elements, barren landscapes, and abstract, machine-like forms. Unlike many male Surrealists who favored dreamlike imagery, Sage's work is characterized by stark, linear compositions and an eerie, desolate quality.

Dutch poet and essayist Martinus Nijhoff died #OTD in 1953.
His debut was in 1916 with his volume De wandelaar ('The Wanderer'). He was a literary craftsman who employed skillfully various verse forms from different literary periods. Some of his best-known works include Het Uur U (1936) and the long poem Awater (1934).

Finnish priest, lyric and epic poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg was born #OTD in 1804 (Runeberg Day).
He is the author of the lyrics to Vårt land (Our Land, Maamme in Finnish) which became the Finnish national anthem. Runeberg was also involved in the modernization of the Finnish Lutheran hymnal and produced many texts for the new edition.
