Oh, there's something like #portfolioDay ! Okay, so, I'm an #author, #podcast host and data privacy expert with a strong focus on #ITsecurity awareness. I write #nonfiction, crime and #scifi in German and English. The last two years I mainly spent with making #books and podcasts for others, like the lovely Eltville #WeinSchreibereien anthology and podcast.

Hi guys!
I’m new to mastodon and the fediverse. I’m still trying to figure things out but so far this seems pretty cool!
Here is a list of my interests:
#kpop
#kdrama
#anime
#manga
#genshinimpact
#books
#nonfiction
I am also a part of the #lgbtq community and came here because of #tiktok
I hope to find lots of friends so if you follow me i’ll follow you back!
Here is my #introduction because I’m #newhere.
Like so many others, I’m a refugee from Meta/X. Mastodon is giving me some hope that I might find a #community in social media. Happily married. Resident of Florida but currently on slow travel in Costa Rica. My passions are: #writing – my web site (link in profile) has info on my novels and occasional #popculture essays - #movies , #reading #fiction and #nonfiction , and #photography
I look forward to connecting with the Mastodon community!

Four stars:
Mummy Brown: The Complete Color Profile by Ryan Demaree (2019) is a short account of one man's quest to recreate a discontinued color. The color was a dark brown that had poor drying qualities and was used for tinting of flesh tones. It was also made out of mummified human or cat flesh.

A new #Introduction for my 1-year anniversary on Mastodon. I find Mastodon much more welcoming than those corporate owned social media platforms. Currently living in beautiful #France with my lovely wife. I mostly share my love of #Movies and #Photography . I also love #Reading #Fiction (one of my 2026 projects is a slow re-read of Les Miserables) and #NonFiction and I do some #Writing on #Creativity and pop culture. Basically if you’re a decent person, I’m happy to connect here.

#AynRand’s original introduction to _The Virtue of Selfishness_ is now online—and it *directly contradicts* most of the claims people make about her #ethics.
If your picture of Rand comes from social media threads, YouTube rants, or second-hand “hot takes,” this is the text that breaks the spell: https://courses.aynrand.org/works/introduction-to-virtue-of-selfishness/
Let’s clear out the biggest straw men right away:
❌ “Rand said selfishness means hurting people.”
No. She argues that rational self‑interest forbids coercion, exploitation, and parasitism. Predators aren’t “selfish”—they’re short‑range, self‑destructive, and irrational.
❌ “It’s just an excuse to do whatever you want.”
She draws a hard boundary between whim and #reason. Her ethics demands long‑range thinking, integrity, and principled action — the opposite of impulse.
❌ “#Objectivism celebrates cruelty.”
The introduction explicitly rejects cruelty as irrational. Benevolence is not only compatible with #egoism—it’s a natural expression of a rational, confident person.
❌ “Rand denies moral principles.”
She denies sacrifice as a moral ideal. She does not deny #morality. She argues for a code rooted in reality, reason, and the requirements of human life.
If you want to understand the argument instead of the mythology, read the primary source—it’s short, sharp, and surprisingly accessible.

finished reading Material World: The Six Raw Materials That Shape Modern Civilization 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
by Ed Conway.
A high-octane tour through the materials that underlie our civilisation: sand, salt, steel, copper, oil & lithium. So many intriguing side notes that sent me off down rabbit holes (African ghost miners!). Really brings home the mammoth scale, complexity & interconnectedness of these critical industries that we take for granted. But also highlights their fragility, the environmental damage they cause, and the immense difficulty of reforming them to be sustainable.

Picked up this book from the used bin of my local bookstore yesterday: You Are Not A Gadget by Jaron Lanier. Written in 2010 but very prescient and relevant to our current techno cultural world. It examines the ways in which software and technology shape thought and society.

finished reading Messy: The Power of Disorder to Transform Our Lives 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
by Tim Harford.
The importance of randomness & spontaneity in creativity & problem-solving. Plans, order & rationality are often counter-productive! So don't beat yourself up about meeting simplistic measures of performance. The tech discussion is a bit dated, but the principles are extremely relevant to AI. Ginormous gender blind-spot.
