The car honking was almost continuous. People were flying flags out their sunroofs and had signs taped to their cars. Absolutely wild. #NoKings

I left the liberal Twin Cities and went to my super conservative, rural hometown to protest. I was not a paid protester but I did get a payday! #NoKings #FreedomOfSpeech
One protest down. On to the next one.
My sign elicited a variety of responses. Some were confused. Some were ashamed. Some were offended. Some were supportive and agreeable. So be it. We live in a country with a messy history and currently our "leaders" are making it messier. #NoKings
Spouse & I participated in today's #NoKings #OKC protest.
The core of it was a mock trial.
The defendant: Donald J. Trump.
He was present as a cardboard cutout.
The jury: We the People.
Witnesses detailed his crimes.
When called upon, we the People shouted the verdict: "GUILTY."
Rally leaders then dressed the cardboard defendant in an orange jumpsuit.
"LOCK HIM UP!"
Led by a younger woman with a guitar, we sang "This Land Is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie & "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes.

to all the fuckwads claiming #NoKings achieved nothing, then why have the numbers of mostly w̶h̶i̶t̶e̶ Real Americans™ more than doubled?
you know who’ve carried american “democracy” on our backs? African Americans, Latines, Native Americans, Asian Americans. the white folks protesting the past 50 years have been mostly LGBTQI & old hippies.
for a group averse to confrontation, white middle class Americans are one protest away from creating the history altering critical mass this country needs.

Thousands of people are expected to gather in Chicago & the suburbs Saturday for a “No Kings” protest amid ongoing federal #immigration *enforcement* [terrorist] operations in the area. The first “No Kings” protest in June drew roughly 15,000 people.

Me and mine (in his Mike Eruzione hockey jersey) stopped by the library while we were at the #NoKings protest just to get our picture taken among the stacks. I have Rebecca Smith Aldrich to thank for the text on mine.
There are a million ways to display resistance and just because your resistance isn't the showy resistance that looks good in a post doesn't make it any less valuable. There is so much great vital work happening behind the scenes right now that most people will never see or appreciate.
There are both short-term and long-term forms of resistance and the short-term gets the attention but the long term builds a foundation from which to grow. Resist in a way that is sustainable for you where you can make a difference.

Folks, there's an interesting change in the tenor of the media coverage for yesterday's #NoKings. It's no longer "sure, there are lots of people, but will it matter?" Now it's "Wow, look at all the people. Something important is happening."
Let's take a little tour.
First, CNN's article at https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/19/us/protestors-voices-no-kings-trump highlights that nearly 7 million people showed up -- 2 million more than the protests in June. They highlighted "largely peaceful".

Watching footage from Portland — protestors in frog suits, unicorns, dancing, humor in the face of absurd claims.
It reminds me that resistance doesn’t always roil and riot — sometimes it laughs, shines a light, and refuses to be afraid.
We need more of that.
