Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1003 , Monday 27/07/2026

Monday started early, it being a gym day.

Why are Mondays always a struggle! (Prolly all the naught food I have over the weekend & the fact that I still don’t have a set exercise regimen at home - but don’t tell anyone else that!).

After breakfast & a few chores Mrs S & I went across to my late MiL’s house - Mrs S to sort thru some bowls & crockery in the kitchen & me to tackle my late FiL’s garage. So many tools!

I have made a start, but it will take at least 2 more trips to finish the job I think!

We stopped off at Sainsgogs for a late lunch - their meal deal was just what we needed, quick but filling. Then home.

Relaxed this afternoon finishing the latest series of ‘For all Mankind’. I do like that show.

Salad & roast chicken breasts for tea with strawberries & ice cream for pud while we continued our journey thru the original series of ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ they really do not make TV like that any more (the new version is good but not as good as the original with Christopher Timothy! )

Final Thoughts.

A busy day & looking at the garage it does not look like I have made too much progress, but progress has been made!

Somehow I have to find some room for the tools I plan to keep! I also need to find a good home for those that I will never use!

Up earlier than I expected at just after 7am thanks to next door, noisy lot!

A nice quiet day after the chores were completed.

A good thing really as my body was whining about all the bending & stretching that happened on Monday!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1005 , Wednesday 29/07/2026

Up early to go to the gym, not a bad session although my knee complained about the leg press!

Got back did a couple of chores then had breakfast.

Had to go for a blood test &, as is the case these days, the phlebotomist had problems fining a willing vein!

Mrs S has been pestering me to do the front hedge so I tackled that this morning & then, in a fit of ADHD enthusiasm topped the hawthorn tree. I only had hedge trimmers & a set of long handled loppers to tackle the job & the hawthorn was not for giving in easily as the many scratches on my arms attest!

My entire body now hates me, but at least the job is done!

I was treated to a chinese takeaway this evening for my efforts so that was nice! It went well with an episode of Cadfael!

Final Thoughts.

A much, much busier day than I at first envisioned but the front garden looks better, although I need to get out there & tackle the runaway wild strawberries next!

Thursday has been a recovery day, after yesterday’s exertions!

A quiet day, with breakfast & chores to start the day then a bit of exploring the galaxy.

I did make a start on sorting thru the tools & stuff that I brought back on Monday!

I’m toying with going over to my late MiL’s tomorrow & do another stint in the garage but we shall see how things are in the morning. I still ache from yesterday.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1021 , Friday 14/08/2026

Woke up just after 06:30 - my body is getting used to the every other day gym session. Today however I woke with the headache I went to bed with last night & felt like someone had hit me in the face. So I decided that cautions was the better side of valour & skipped gym - I will get back on that particular horse next week when the weather has cooled down a bit!

Next door prevented me for sleeping in, they hit the hoover about 5 minutes after I initially woke up! What is it with these people!

Had a relaxed day, chores & some gaming then finishing off the Hobbit trilogy.

Ordered a Hotdog stuffed crust pizza … interestingly I got a hot (spicy) pizza with a cheese stuffed crust - no hotdog to be seen though.

I only managed ½ of it I can take spicy food to a certain degree but not a whole pizzas worth!
Still one way to help with the diet!!

Not a bad day, we managed to move forward with regards to my MiL’s property, still a work in progress but every step is a step closer!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1007 , Friday 31/07/2026

Friday, last gym day of the week & it took me an age to get ready & get out of the house.

Not a bad session at the gym though, although I was forced to use the despised new treadmill! Really they could have got one with a fan!

Got home, did my chores & finally got breakfast at around 9am. I do appreciate it when Mrs S helps … on the odd occasion when she does. Today was not one of those days.

I was all set to go to my late MiL’s & have another go in the garage but once again the car was suddenly unavailable.

So I spent the day doing various bits & bobs in Starfield but my heart wasn’t in it.

I don’t miss much since I retired but I REALLY miss having my own car!

Monday started at around 6am as it is a gym day.

Not a bad gym session, pushed past the 5.7km/h barrier I’ve been struggling with on the treadmill so that was encouraging.

Did a little gardening after breakfast & chores then some exploring in Starfield.

We had a Costco™ trip late this afternoon … heck stuff is so expensive now.

Had a naughty takeaway for tea, we were originally going to have tea at Costco™ but it was literally standing room only in the cafe & neither of us fancied that!

Final Thoughts.

Not a bad day, although I had a dizzy turn in Costco™, I think these are caused by a mixture of me being really tired & the lighting in there!

Up early, before the 06:30 alarm - the cold woke me … I say cold it was 21ºC but given it was 27 when I went to bed it was considerably cooler!

Hit the gym then did my chores.

Then I spent a chunk of the day fitting a shelf/ step in the box room & then tidying said room up for the decorator tomorrow.

Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours on the PS5 then had to make tea when Mrs S got home. Chicken burgers with the last of the salad & then a couple of scoops of ice cream for dessert.

A very busy day but I actually feel like I accomplished something - even if,as is useually the case these days, wholly on my own.

A quiet day with nothing really to report.

Given that I had an epic gaming session (the first time in a long time) that lasted until it was so late at night it was early in the morning, this was not a bad thing.

The bug I picked up last week lingers, a bit achy & a bit snotty & coughing.

Still struggling to read large tracts of text, it’s weird like I can see the words but it’s like trying to see the crystalline form of a snowflake - in a blizzard.

Saturday has been a fairly quiet day.

I seem to have pulled a muscle of 3 in my chest this week, exertion has been painful today & left me a little short of breath today.

Tidied up some of the stuff in the garage to start to make some room for all the stuff that my late FiL left me.

Takeaway for tea accompanying ‘Night in the Museum 2’ - Mrs S’s choice. It was ok but not as good as the original.

Not a bad day I hope that my chest is less painful tomorrow I need to have another session sorting out in the garage at my late MiLs.

Saturday started quite late at just before 07:30.

A quiet day, we continued out LotR fest this afternoon - sadly our (very) well used blu-ray extended collection is starting to show it’s age with the first disk of ‘The Two Towers’ sticking in several places even after some (careful) cleaning.

We succumbed & got the remastered HDR 6 movie set from Apple by way of a late anniversary present to each other.

Enjoyed a chinese takeaway while we watched Gandalf free Theoden from Saruman & evict Grima.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1009 , Sunday 02/08/2026

Sunday & I managed to get a bit of a lie in this morning, getting up around 07:30.

Made breakfast for the two of us before doing my chores.

We went across to my late MiL’s & continued with the seemingly never ending job of clearing it out. Although to be fair one or possibly two more trips should see the job done.
I bought back ½ a dozen tool boxes to sort out during the week - I suspect most of the tools will need a new home but some of them I will keep.

We had a fest on the TV show ‘The Capture’ there is a new series out but we are starting from season one again as it’s been a while.

Huntsmans pie & a mixed salad for tea with the old strawberries & ice cream for dessert.

I’m not feeling the whole shilling tonight, I hope I’m not coming down with a bug - I’m wondering if it’s why I have been a bit short of breath when exerting myself the last few days.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 939 , Sunday 24/05/2026

I managed to get a bit of a lie in this morning but the sunlight streaming thru the window woke me up & drove me out of bed.

It has been a day of frustration of beauty & of sadness.

Managed to get windows 10 onto my MBP this morning, so that was heartening,

Mrs S & I went out for a short walk in the glorious sunshine by the local reservoir & I was reminded that we live in a most beautiful part of the world!

I got myself a Steam a/c & got a copy of Elite Dangerous this afternoon but could not get it to run, it was a bit of a long shot on a 7 year old machine. I will have to wait for Christmas for a gaming PC.

Late this afternoon I found out that a lovely friend that I met on here some time ago had passed after succumbing to an illness they knew nothing about at the start of the year.

I will post a G.N.U. for them after their funeral but I will let others formally announce their passing as they have asked.

Nobody is truly gone as long as their name is spoken by those who knew them & cared for them.

Monday started early as it was a gym day.

It has to be said that I’m finding that the gym would be less traumatic if there were less people in there - I had to re arrange my gym routine again to cater for other folk!
I know that this seems somewhat selfish but it breaks my brain a little bit when it happens!

Got home & then breakfast & chores happened.

The rest of the day has been spent on NMS missions & exploring a tiny bit of Mars (using actual NASA data generated landscapes) in Starfield.

Mrs S used her ‘study’ for the 1st time in anger today & appears to be very happy with it so that’s good!

Sunday started very late at gone 8am after a very rough night filled with painful arms & legs & feeling cold enough to need a blanket & bed socks on a warm evening.
I think this is related to feeling rough Thursday night into Friday morning, although I did think that was done with!

Today has been a day of no energy, aches & chills - can one actually have cold flushes, because I have had a few thru the day!

I hope that some sleep tonight will leave me well enough to go to the gym in the morning!

Ooooops, in my (continued) manky state I forgot to post this last night! 🙄🤦‍♂️

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1010 , Monday 03/08/2026

Monday started early & with a distinct struggle!

Not been feeling the full shilling the last few days & I felt it in the gym today, I persevered but was not at my best.

After breakfast & chores I tackled the first 3 of the toolboxes I brought back from my late FiL’s place.
I also did some digging & there is a UK charity that takes old tools, renovates them & then sends them to 3rd world countries. Perfect for the tools I won’t be able to keep!

I was totally drained after 3 boxes so called it a day & went roaming around the galaxy again.

Chicken thighs & salad for tea - rather nice even if I do say so myself!

Final Thoughts.

I’m not sure how much of this malaise is physical & how much is a MH thing. It seems like an extension of the whole not being able to concentrate on reading.
Writing the diary tonight was a conscious effort.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1012 , Wednesday 05/08/2026

Wednesday started early & it was a real struggle to get out of bed. I had a rubbish night & struggled to get to sleep until the wee small hours!

Despite yesterday’s events & the lack of sleep I managed to get my ass into gear & down to the gym.

It was a challenging gym session, not only because I was tired & out of sorts but also because I had to break my routine because others were using the kit. It’s not their fault obviously but it does make a difference.

Got home & breakfast was followed by chores.

I read a report about the effects of eating from heated plastic containers over the weekend & one of the things it mentioned was an increased risk of thyroid problems. Mrs S & I have both encountered thyroid issues this year & so this was the catalyst that has driven us to use glassware instead of plastic in future.

To support this move we bought a 20 piece set from Costco™ - WARNING it seems that the lids are counted as ‘pieces’! I was not amused when I discovered this & will be saying as much when the inevitable request for a review hits my email inbox!

Anyhow I had a massive culling session today & while I have kept some of our existing plastic ware for storage & prep work the bulk is history!

This afternoon I finished going thru the toolboxes that came from my late FiL’s house. At some point I will have to find homes for the tools I am keeping (they are all sharing a cardboard box at the moment) but that is a job for another day!

Chicken skewers for tea with the last of the salad from the weekend. Very nice!

A better day than I thought it would be & more productive too!

Tomorrow maybe a challenge - the current plan is to drop Mrs S off at the office then drive thru to my late MiL’s house & continue work in the garage - I must remember to take some cans of pop with me because there is nothing in the way of beverage prep in the house any more!

Thursday started much earlier than I anticipated at just gone 6am. I tried to get back to sleep but gave in & was up by 06:30.

Summertime has returned to deepest, darkest Yorkshire with warm dry weather - the cats love it!

Spent most of the day in outer space. I might be addicted to Starfield, although I did take time out for meals & chores.

Lots of little niggly things have completely ‘knocked my duck off’ today, my mood is so low this evening a limbo dancer would struggle to get any lower!

I have not got the spoons to be social tonight so folks will have to make do with a like rather than a response.

Up at 06:30 but the bus that ran over me yesterday did it again! I was tempted to just go back to bed but decided that I wasn’t gonna give in totally to this bug & went downstairs for breakfast.

It has been a day of aches & little energy.

I did perk up enough to make a salad for tea to go with a huntsman pie that Mrs S got over the weekend. However the lettuce fought back & I nearly chopped the tip off my left thumb!

This bug has drained me of energy, I hope I can beat it by Wednesday, I need to get back to the gym!

Another really rough night led to me sleeping in till past 8am this morning.

Another late morning, not up until just after 8am following a rubbish night where I couldn’t sleep & struggled to get comfy because I have apparently pulled a muscle in my left thigh & knobbled my knee!

Another slow, quiet day. There were a million things I planned on doing & I managed precisely none of them!

I need to get my act into gear soon!

Apropos to absolutely nothing I realised this evening that I still think of my parents house (well my Dad’s hose now since my mum passed in 2019 ) as ‘home’.

Where I live now is just … where I live.

When we go over to see my Dad I always think of it as ‘going home’.

Another rough night, another late morning!

What I thought was a pulled muscle in my leg is … not!
I had a deep ache in the bones of both legs last night so I gave up & hit the codeine, which helped a lot!
So now I know what to do tonight if it kicks off again!

Another quiet day, the highlight being the stringing of a new washing line in the garden - I know, what na exciting life I lead!

Pizza for tea accompanied by the start of season 3 of Babylon 5.

Seems the rain gods are making up for ignoring us over the first part of summer, it rained cats, dogs & small cephalopods this evening!

Well throw an acorn at me & call me a nutter, I actually managed to get some decent sleep last night - more or less a full 8 hours!

Breakfast & then chores before a couple of hours chasing around the galaxy while Mrs S was out shopping.

Caught up on a couple of Mrs S’s shows this afternoon.

Fried chicken takeaway for tea with an interesting new sci-fi movie ‘Signal One’ for accompaniment!

Not a bad day, the world seems so much brighter for some decent kip!
