Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 948 , Tuesday 02/06/2026

Up at just gone 7am. Initially convinced it was Sunday then came back down to Earth with a thud when I realised it was actually Tuesday!

The day went as normal until about 7:45 when Mrs S found that the car would not start.

We have Green Flag membership & the guy was with us within the hour, seems the battery was buggered. Battery replaced - Mrs S decided to pay the premium & get the Green Flag guy to fit one of the ones he carried. Well it’s her cash who am I to argue. Also so it got me out of trundling into town in search of one.

I got my ass into gear after the mechanic had gone & ran 2 tasks in parallel :-

Task 1 was to take down one of the eye level cupboards that I fitted on Sunday. It’s been bugging me because it wasn’t sitting square. I realised that this was because one side was not on its bracket properly.
So had to take the bracket off, patch & repaint the repair & then reposition the bracket & refit the cupboard.
The cupboard is now so level you could play pool on it & so square that Buddy Holley or Elvis would write a song about it if they were still alive!
The moral of this story is do not attempt to fit cupboards when you are already ½ braindead having done a load of work prior to the fitting!

Task 2 was fitting a long narrow shelf above the window in Mrs S’s ‘study’ this used to go along the wall to the windows left - which is a longer wall. So despite the fact that my joiner skills are only slightly better than my quantum mechanical skills I cut the shelf to length & then fitted it above the window. The cut was, for me, really rather good, straight & true on both planes - which I usually cannot achieve. After fitting the shelf is within a gnats bum hair of perfectly level - tested with both the 2m level & the 1.2 m level because I didn’t believe the first reading!
The only minor niggle is that the wall on the right of the shelf is not truly square so there is a small gap. But one the shelf is in use I doubt anyone but me will notice it - Mrs S certainly didn’t.

These 2 tasks were interleaved as there were pauses in task 1 for the filler , then the paint to dry.

Managed to fit in an hour or so starting NMS Exp 22 … got most of Phase one done!

Made us a salad again tonight which went well with a couple of chicken kievs.

Final Thoughts.

Really happy with what I achieved today, which is not something I often admit to.
Tomorrow sees the carpet being fitted in Mrs S’s study so that should be fun!

Wednesday started early, today being a gym day.

Was quite pleased with myself, I have moved up a notch on the bike & the treadmill although I have felt it all day!

There has been much busyness today, starting with prepping Mrs S’s study for the carpet fitters, then re-building the big set of shelves that we brought back from my late MiLs at the weekend.

Managed to get in a couple of hours on NMS & Starfield too, so a good day all in all!

A very busy day today but productive & I feel like I have accomplished something again! Yay! 😊

Up early because my body now thinks that 06:30 is the time to get up!

Breakfast & chores were followed by a much quieter day than at first planned. Partially because fitting the shelf & then the blind is a 2 person job & partially because its toooo hot to think let alone do anything!

Had a very healthy salad sarnie for lunch, which balanced out the afternoon coffee & cookie nicely!

Final Thoughts.

Not a bad day at all, I will be pleased when this heatwave has passed.

No doubt within about 5 years 30ºC will be a common temperature in summer & we Brits will have started to get used to it.

Saturday started after a decent kip at around 07:30.

It has been a mostly quiet day, there were all the usual chores this morning, with a dash of floor cleaning thrown in.

I’m starting to winnow down the bric a brak in my room - I am trying to get rid of some of all the junk I have accrued.

A nice relaxed afternoon catching up on a couple of Mrs S’s shows then watched Robert De Niro in the 1996 ‘Sleepers’ I’m not sure how I managed to miss this movie before but I’m glad that we have seen it now!

Fried chicken takeaway for tea.

Not a bad day at all!

Tomorrow will be a busy day, we are off to my late MiLs for one last clear out.

Wednesday started early, as gym days do.

Not a bad gym session, up to 130lbs(?) on the leg press, I started on 90 so happy with that progress!

Got home & after doing the main chores settled down for some breakfast.

Sophie mog has discovered that if she waits for the sound of me finishing my coffee then there is a high chance of a brush. That cat is utterly brush addicted! We had at least 3 brush sessions a day!

Spent the afternoon exploring in Starfield. The Bethesda devs have outdone themselves with curiosities to discover!

Chicken kievs & salad for tea with strawgogs & ice cream for pudding!

Finished the day by watching Springwatch (I know!) & starting to re-organise the contents of the old unit in the lounge that was replaced with the set of bookshelves from me late MiL’s house. Some canny redistribution of assets & even some binning off of stuff ensued!
More to do but I am happy with the start I made!

It’s not been a bad day - I even managed to plant out the dragon tree stems - hopefully they will take & we will have 3 for the price of 1!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 950 , Thursday 04/06/2026

Up at just before 7am because … neighbours!

Git breakfast & did my chores - initially I was going to have an easy day to rest my back but my ND brain was having none of that so I spent several hours building the bottom half of the flat pack desk Mrs S ordered for her ‘study’.

It’s actually 4 pieces of furniture in one - there is a narrowish book case as one leg, a cupboard with a shelf & a draw as the other leg. Then (& this is tomorrow’s job because it will need 2 people to lift it into place) there is a set of overhead cupboards & a couple of small shelves that sit on the back of the desk top. Finally there is the actual desktop which comes with a built in power supply (that one has to fit as part of the build) & LED lighting strips.

Watched ‘Silence of the Lambs’ while I worked, with pauses as required by particularly arsey fittings.

Managed to squeeze in some NMS & some Starfield.

Final Thoughts.

Not a bad day at all - on a bit of a roll at the moment. The only fly in the ointment is that I am really, really struggling to engage with folk at the moment!

I don’t know if it is that I am simply overwhelmed by all that is going on or if my hermit style tendencies are ratcheting up a notch or 3!

Friday started early, it being a day of ritual torture - AKA ‘The Gym’!

Pushed myself a little too hard & my heart rate went a little bananas so I had to take a bit of a rest & let it all calm down a little - Nothing too dramatic but a warning not to be ignored.

Got home & after breakfast did my chores.

Then built the top part of Mrs S’s new desk, tomorrow will see the 2 halves joined & powered.

Spent the afternoon near Alpha Centauri (in Starfield) I am liking this game a lot, it has elements of Elite & NMS while maintaining it’s own unique identity!

Takeaway for tea & then continued our Babylon 5 fest - still on season 1 so a long way to go!

Not a bad day, long may this streak last! (🤞)

I managed a bit of a lie in this morning, getting up at around 07:15.

Well the builders finished everything off this morning, just the scaffolding which should go tomorrow.

They have left something of a mess though, I’m hoping that the lime from the cement doesn’t leech in to the pond!
I may well move the pond back more or less to where it was be before at the bottom of the garden, it’s Lovely right by the house but it is so in the way!

There are more important things to sort out first though & everything depends on wether I can find the motivation to actually do stuff in the real world.

Struggling to do stuff around the house, it all seems so pointless.

I need to go shopping tomorrow at some point, otherwise we will be back eating the barely edible stuff Mrs S gets.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 976 , Tuesday 30/06/2026

Tuesday started at around 06:30 because that is now the time my body expects me to get up!

It’s been a mostly quiet day, Mrs S was out at the office so I had the day to myself after my chores were done.

I finished off clearing out the built in cupboard in Mrs S’s study (which was used as a general dumping ground during the recent work) & fitted the panel that blanks off where the cables come thru for the router. That is it now job done!

Also cut a dragon tree that had got a bit enthusiastic down to size - the cunning plan is to end up with 3 small dragon trees thanks to the magic of propagation. Whether I succeed or just end up with 3 dead twigs is yet to be seen!

Salad & quiche for tea, followed by strawberries & ice cream!

Sunday started stupidly early with next door being the antisocial bar stewards that they are!

It’s been a quiet day hiding away in the Starfield galaxy & catching up on Mrs S’s tv shows.

Made us a salad & put it with some chicken skewers for tea.

It has been a much cooler, more comfortable summer day today, it looks like we will be having a summer of heat waves followed by much cooler spells. Seems climate change is starting to get into its stride. I had hoped to be spared, that the effects would take much longer to take hold.

I look at the future & feel nothing but trepidation on so many fronts!

Up early & down the gym this morning, managed to get my regular routine in thankfully!

Breakfast then chores were followed by a romp around the Milky Way.

I put in an hour in the box room - doing some sanding. It has been on hold awaiting the decorator, but he is still talking about June so I’m toying with the idea of just doing it myself - despite the fact that I am very bad at paintwork & not much better at hanging wallpaper.
But Mrs S is pestering to have her study back & I can see her point!
Time will tell.

Not a bad day, managed to do more than I planned & it is nice to start feeling motivated again. Although more targeted motivation is required, there are a load of minor jobs that
need doing!

Struggling to people at the moment, making a serious effort to maintain this diary at least.

Flippin next door, what kind of anti social maniac runs the vacuum cleaner around at 06:30 in the morning!

That was the highpoint of the day.

The weather has been truly ‘orrible - temps around 13ºC aka flippin cold!
It’s rained cats, dogs & small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri today!

Spent most of the day hiding away in virtual worlds, I’m struggling to get to grips with everyday life ATM.

Had some salmon type fishcakes with a mixed, chopped salad for tea.

So Wednesday started at 5:30am with next door banging about, I rolled over & it started again at 06:30 when the alarm went off.

Gym session went ok, although it was raining like it was out for vengeance on the way there!

The rest of the day has been a quiet one, Mrs S was out at the office & once I had done my chores the rest of the day was spent variously playing with the mogs & playing with the PS5 - sometimes both at once!

Not a bad day, I am struggling to concentrate & my mood is not particularly good, but I am getting there I think.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 989 , Monday 13/07/2026

Up at crack of sparrows fart for the gym this morning, despite yesterday’s looooonnnnnnggggg day!

Yesterday started out at around 07:30 & after breakfast I cracked on with fitting the shelf over the window (which is actually comprised of 2 shelves that used to be in Mrs S’s study before the epic decorating episode.) sadly the wall is not plum or square or even flat so it
Was not as easy as it should have been.

Then came the fun bit - fitting the ‘easy fit’ roman blind from Dunelm Mills. The major problem ultimately being that it didn’t hang evenly because one of the cords was tied to the wrong length - I got VERY frustrated with it & I regret to report that I had a total meltdown over it.

Anyways that was all fitted by teatime.

After a quick break for something to eat I then had to put my room back together … why does tidying up ALWAYS take at least twice as long as the original job!

By the time I had done all that, installed the new dual monitor arms & the new bluetooth shelf speakers I treated myself to the other week it was gone 10pm. So by the time I came to write the diary I was exhausted, brain dead & still not a little peeved with the blind nd the world in general.

The blind does look the business though, it’s a proper blackout blind & for the first time since moving into that room as my bedroom I slept thru a summers dawn!
Sadly I didn’t get too much sleep as my body hated me for all the abuse I had given it!

Today has been another busy day. Once I got back from the gym & had had my breakfast we went over to my late MiL’s to clear out the 2 sheds in the garden. This was very messy as the roof had leaked & the mice had moved in. We did find a couple of things that were worth keeping but not much.

We also met with a rep from the ‘Clean and Clear’ company that has been hired to spruce the place up. The meeting went well & we await dates & a formal quote in the coming days.

Stopped off for lunch (gammon, egg n chips for me) on the way home then a very alzy afternoon watching ‘The Aviator’ from a few years back, & interesting film but one that I would probably not watch again - for one thing at nearly 3 hours long it did drag on a bit!

A light salad for tea with strawberries & ice cream for dessert.

Yesterday left me frazzled & between my efforts then & todays work my spine is in open revolt! But on the other hand I do feel like I have achieved a lot & will go to bed a lot happier than I did last night!

Actually got up at a reasonable hour this morning - around 07:15.

It has been a pants day weather wise - cold & wet! We literally had warmer days in the dead of last winter!

Looks like it might warm up next week though!

A quiet day roaming the galaxy today, merrily ignoring the rest of the world as it merrily ignored me.

Except for the text from my mum about her new phone number.
This was exceptional for 2 reasons:

1. She never texted anyone in her life!
2. She passed in 2019!

Bastard scammers - I posted about it on my MAJ1 a/c so others would be aware that it was going around.

Not a bad day but still struggling to organise my thoughts, & still struggling to read all but the shortest chunks of text!

Friday was a gym day so it started early at around 06:30.

Not a bad gym session, I actually managed to more or less stick to my routine!

The weather has been much sunnier & warmer today, which has been very welcome because I seem to be coming down with a cold! In June!!

The rest of the day passed peacefully & we had a KFC style takeaway for tea.

Not a bad day, the whole reading thing is still a thing & coughing & spluttering thru the day with a nascent cold put a slight damper on things. But on the whole not too bad!

I seemed to have picked up a bit of a cold, a bit achy & snuffly today.

We watched Zootropolis 2 accompanied by a chinese takeaway.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 919 , Monday 04/05/2026

Monday, being a Bank Holiday started a little later than normal at around 07:30.

Breakfast was followed by chores.

We wandered across to see my family for a joint birthday lunch, we gave ourselves plenty of time in case of traffic - which didn’t materialise so we descended on my dad for an hour … I think he & my baby sis were pleased to see us.

The meal was great & the weather pulled itself together this afternoon & the sun came out!

We went back to my other sister’s for coffee & cake & to mercilessly tease the younger of my 2 nephews who turned 18 today!

We got home fairly early & watched Alice Roberts at Barts Hospital in London while we had a light repast for tea.

Not a bad day at all, avoiding the holiday traffic (which seemed to be going the other way mostly) was an unexpected bonus!

Monday started early so I could get down the gym. Mondays are a;ways the hardest day to do that, my body has just started to get used to the idea of a peaceful existence when I throw it against the kit in the gym.

The rest of the day has been quiet, that bug I got is still lurking but doesn’t seem to be getting any worse which is a blessing!

Sunday started much later than expected with me sleeping thru until 08:30!

Its been a quiet day mostly. The highlight was me cleaning a load of fancy glasses that came from my late MiL’s house & finding homes for them.

Not a bad day although I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning stuff theat my wife brings back from her late mother’s!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 982 , Monday 06/07/2026

Monday is a gym day so up early, down the gym by 7am & then stumble home 45 minutes later telling myself that it’s all in a good cause!

I seem to have done something to my knee, my left kneecap keeps complaining when I come downstairs! Hopefully a day of rest will get it back into working order!

Not much else to report for today. It’s been a somewhat overcast day but quite warm so not too bad - looks like we are in for a hot few days again later this week & for the foreseeable future (temps in the high 20s (C).

Final Thoughts.

Gonna put Kubuntu back on the MBP since windoze failed miserably. Starfield is scratching my spacefaring itch nicely so the need for a working version of Elite has faded. The need for a working laptop though is more pressing.

I also need to get the shelf & the blind sorted in my room some time soon!

Up at just after 06:30 but that was ok because I fell asleep before 10pm last night so a more or less solid 8 hours.

Mrs S was in the office to a nice quiet day once I had done my chores!
I officially finished NMS exp 22 & got all the goodies I wanted to take back to my main save - & a trendy new multi-tool to boot!

Chicken kievs & salad for tea with strawberries for dessert - yum!

A much needed quiet day to start to de-stress & relax, there will be a repeat performance tomorrow!

Sunday started at around 07:30.

Had a busy morning at my late MiL’s collecting the final bits & bobs.

Got back for a late lunch & then a binge fest of ‘The Capture’ season 2.

Tomorrow will see us at the end of clearing out my late MiL’s house - it’s been an excruciatingly log road but the end is now clearly in sight!
