My brain's been serving up some real darkness lately.
(And when an #ActuallyAutistic brain latches onto something, it COMMITS 🙃)
So I'm reminding myself that in this world (especially at this time) ✨#Autistic Joy✨ is an act of defiant resistance.
And I'll be damned if I don't remember to stand in awe of all I've weathered, and of our #neurodivergent culture as a whole.

I've been getting a lot of questions lately about whether symptom X or behavior Y is a sign of ADHD. I don't like answering this question, everyone is different.
However, I would like to link to this comprehensive self-test, which I think is very successful
German 🇩🇪:

(Thanks @Jay16K for the hint)
Note: You'll need an account on the website to access the test.

we talked about dissertation timeline and writing and graduation stuff today
so uh,
anyone (esp #neurodivergent and #ChronicIllness folks) got tips for writing that actually work? 😬
fwiw: “write a lil every day” is not helpful advice here that gives me literally no idea what to do thank you

This track perfectly describes my AuDHD brain on an average day. Maybe therefore I can't stop dancing to it.

A question for my autistic friends. Many autistic people struggle with social interactions and forming relationships, which is why they often feel lonely and isolated. I’d be interested to know how you usually go about making new connections, whether they’re friendships or romantic relationships.
I’d appreciate it if you could boost this so we can get more responses. 🙏🏻

Understanding yourself and knowing what you want can lead to a dating profile that is more of an essay or even a novel. While I do have a draft of such an essay on my phone, this is not how I want to do it. Words can easily be misunderstood and there’s a lot of nuance to most topics. Getting to know a person takes time and I prefer to do that in the form of a dialogue.
So, if my Mastodon profile and the content I posted seem appealing to you, feel free to send me a dm (@me) and find out if we are a good match for a friendship or relationship online or IRL. You don’t have to agree on everything, I like to be challenged and explore new perspectives.
Boosts are welcome, it’s not easy to find your people as an AuDHD person.

I recently got some test results from my therapist - I am very likely in the adhd club (inattentive type/without hyperactivity) ✨ Any recommendations on books and resources, which can help me getting started on my journey of self discovery? Or things to avoid? German preferred, english is also okay. I am also interested into finding out, if I am also on the autistic spectrum - maybe being adhd is not the whole story... Thanks in advance <3
Thinking about switching from Windows to Linux yesterday created a cascade of thoughts in me I didn’t expect and I would liket to tell you a bit about it, about me. I am an AuDHD cis woman (she), somewhat fluid in gender (autigender) and personality, I constantly grow and adapt.
I am a Xennial and worked as a concept developer and PM in tech during my 20s until my first huge burnout, that made me spend several months on an almost empty island in Thailand and in India and quit my job. During my 30s I worked as a yoga teacher, but I never really recovered from the burnout. Because of that and other health problems, I have been unemployed for several years by now. I live together with beagle Lumi, a rescue from animal testing.
Since I found out that I am autistic 4 years ago, things slowly improved, but I cannot change the fact that I am an autistic, disabled person in an allistic, ableist world. Because of my sensory issues and other aspects of my disability, I can barely exist in the outside world. Besides my daily walks with Lumi and very few planned activities, I spend most of my time at home, so it’s almost impossible for me to meet like minded people IRL. The fact that I live in a very conservative country, city and neighborhood doesn’t help with that either.
As an Anarchist I believe in community and mutual support, but switching to a new operating system with only the online-community here on Mastodon as support is scary. I have an IRL friend who is a sys-admin, but he is specialized in Windows and very busy. I am a fast learner and have exceptional analytical skills, but I am not a programmer, my math skills are extremely limited and the burnout affects my capacity for learning new things. I have a very monotropic mind, am very attached to objects and change can be difficult for me as autistic person.
But currently I feel the need for change, for tidying up my life, my data, myself.
I still have my information architect and project manager skills and I already have a list in my mind of all the things that will be affected by the change and I have a lot of questions. I will write about that in another post, probably several other posts.
Thank you for reading this, thank you for helping me, boosts are welcome.
Katta's new fringe, AuDHD edition.
After decades of not having a fringe, I decide that I want one. I resit the ADHD impulse to do it myself and make an appointment at my hairdresser, bringing pictures of curtains bangs.
After less than an hour later sensory issues drive me crazy, the hairdresser doesn't answer the phone. I remember where I actually saw the fringe I wanted, look at old pictures of Jane Birkin and cut it myself. Now I have the fringe I wanted an no sensory issues, because the hair doesn't touch my eyelids. Happy End.

Was visiting some relatives.
At the table, suddenly realized I only started feeling the taste of the tea after they turned off the (very loud) TV.

In my experience music can help "reprogramming" our bodyminds, getting rid of harmful thought patterns and even give us access to information hidden in the subconsciousness.
Sometimes it's just a line in the lyrics, it doesn't have to be the meaning that the artist intended. It's about what your bodymind associates with it.
So to all the autistic people, who need time to process things, who mask and fawn, especially autistic women, who sometimes find themselves in situations where they feel obliged to do things, that make them feel uncomfortable, because you said "it's fine" before, this song is for you.
It's ok to change your mind. Consent can be revoked at any time.
