The leaf within

A fallen Red Maple leaf is on grass. It is fully intact but slightly curled at the edges. Starting at where the yellowish stem attaches, is the shape of a smaller, thinner leaf that is green and yellow. It reaches into the remainder of the leaf that is crispy brown and looks like one you’d find in the fall. It’s an odd pattern for a newly fallen leaf. Perhaps there is something wrong with it.

The Chikanishing Trail, Killarney Provincial Park Ontario Canada was a rough, rugged trail over rocky wet terrain. The hiking, mostly uphill, was challenging in some areas as there was no clear path, just climbing over wet rocks and tree roots and watching to make sure you didn't slip and fall over the rock ledges.

To your eye, Betelgeuse is the bright "shoulder" star in Orion. A new simulation shows what it would look like if you could get up close: an enormous, boiling cauldron of gas.

If Betelgeuse were placed where the Sun is, Earth's orbit (blue circle) would be deep inside. That's how big it is!
