PBS broadcast a tribute to Elton John and Bernie Taupin last night. The night's highlight was a performance of "I'm Still Standing" by Joni Mitchell, with backing vocals from Annie Lennox and Brandi Carlile. Introducing Mitchell's cover, Carlile says: "She was given the green light by Elton and Bernie to change some of the lyrics to fit her, which is honestly the most Joni Mitchell thing I think I’ve ever heard of." Italian master luthier Nicola Amati died #OTD in 1684.
He is known for refining and further developing the violin-making techniques established by his grandfather Andrea Amati. His work had a significant impact on the evolution of violin making during the Baroque period and beyond. He was the teacher of illustrious Cremonese School luthiers such as Andrea Guarneri and Giovanni Battista Rogeri.

She also recently marked the 30th anniversary of both the death of her husband Kurt Cobain and the release of Hole's seminal album, "Live Through This." So I went to DJ Swiftie's Tay Tay Dance Party tonight. (I can't comfortably do large venues because of POTS, so this was my way of enjoying Taylor Swift with Swifties.)
It was a ton of fun, but I wasn't expecting to so profoundly miss Dino, my HS best friend.
Now, I've always loved catchy pop, and he did too. And I didn't pay attention to other stuff about the band: if I liked the music, I'd go.

Spotify’s long-rumored high-res music tier looks like it might be finally ready for launch, based on some pretty convincing leaked screengrabs.
The music streaming service has fallen behind a number of its big rivals in not offering lossless music, but so-called “Enhanced Listening” will look to change that, offering up to 24-bit/44.1kHz playback via Spotify Connect on compatible devices.

Cristofori's most significant invention, the piano, came about as he sought to develop a new keyboard instrument that could offer a greater dynamic range than the harpsichord.
