Listening to Ballads by John Coltrane Quartet
music
I have quite a lot of conversations about the state of tech and its impact on the world, about how I strongly believe in its capability to be a truly transformational good for all humankind, and yet how I feel it is instead a net negative in many ways right now, not because of the technology, but because of the forces and structures behind it, hypercapitalism at its centre. The line I find myself repeating over and over again in these conversations - bitterly, angrily, mournfully, hopefully - is, "it didn't have to be this way." Sooo... I wrote a pop/metal song about it, as I do.

It's kind of funny how much Pantera are The Smiths of Metal - created a whole new sound that was much imitated but never bettered, with a dickhead right wing frontman whose career has inexplicably continued on and on and on, to the point where both are still headlining arenas and stadiums. That said, Johnny Marr never wrote a riff as good as This Love.
