Rated Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender 8/10
Watching this instantly transported me back to my formative days as an avatar fangirl in the best way! The animation is also absolutely phenomenal
Rated Vanya on 42nd Street 6/10
I’ve never seen this play before (beyond the parts of it in drive my car) so this feels like a pretty straight ahead, if condensed probably, performance. The meta stuff is mostly just there although when the director walked in and told everyone to take a break I didn’t even notice that I started reviewing my notes immediately like the movie really was taking a break. You got me, Andre Dinnerwith. Speaking of, as a double feature with dinner with Andre it does feel like the sort of theatrical happening described in that film, although textually it’s just a rehearsal, the way it’s presented is like this whole play is being performed for like 12 people and us. Like dinner theatre in a crumbling art nouveau theatre-palace.Otherwise hard to review meaningfully as I am not very good at telling about plays, but Julianne Moore as a woman tired of being an object, (sex) for all the men in her life and an object, (hatred) for her step daughter and just trying to do, anything really, I found compelling.
Rated Supergirl 8/10
This movie is something I've always wanted to see realized since I was a little girl with it being a showcase of Kara's more grittier side. The core message being "you might not be perfect, but you're still good" hit so hard for me I started crying. Loved it! Also Milly really nailed her portrayal of Kara. Didn't really like how Superman is given so much screen-time though. He had his own movie already!
Rated My Dinner with Andre 8/10
Really enjoying the irony this go of Andre boldly declaring the crucial importance of listening and being present and connecting with people and never asking one fucking question, aside from a few leading, pedagogic nudges. Also worth noting how he feels calling the doorman Johnny or whatever makes the man a child but he calls Shawn Wally the whole time just great character stuff
Rated A Poet 9/10
> Nosotros conocemos muy bien a Óscar y sabemos que es un problema ambulante: es medio tonto, medio torpe, mal poeta; pero […] las personas como Óscar solamente se hacen daño a sí mismas.Muchas más capas de humor de las que esperaba, me ha parecido divertidísima y quiero darle un voto de confianza y confiar en cada chiste rancio y entenderlo dentro de una película crítica y paródica
