Rated Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die 10/10
the first time i watched this was opening weekend two days before my birthday and 11 days after my grandma's birthday, those 13 days between are our birthdays are always a little weird for me since she's been gone. i went into this movie blind because the title was fun and gore verbinski's films are always great. as i mentioned in my first review of this, norms is my favorite diner chain. it was also my grandma's favorite place to go, but her favorite location was the one closest to her house. the last time i went to that specific location was the anniversary of her death when i moved back to california, which was honestly not the smartest move, but you live and you learn. that anniversary is rolling around once again next week, so this popped into my head as i mentally prepare for that.even i didn't have bias towards norms, this film is right up my alley. i love social commentary, anti-ai, time loops, and weirdly crafted movies that could potentially be polarizing depending on the viewer. it's also funny as fuck. this would also make a great double feature with dual (2022), which i also recently re-watched. juno temple's performance in this is phenomenal, especially in one specific scene during her backstory that made me laugh harder than it probably should have. there's an element in this that really hits the whole "if it's free, you're the product" right in the fucking bullseye, or in this case the product placement.there's a very subtle reference to LA punk legends bad religion (one of my favorite bands), but that wasn't really shocking since gore verbinski not only directed a few of their music videos back in the 90s but was also in a band with brett gurewitz after he left bad religion.anyway, i am probably going to norms for lunch tomorrow.

Rated Alexanderplatz in Berlin 2/10
the realization that the surplus of footage of streets and trains in the late 1800s is similar to the way we capture random footage on a smart phone. the only difference is that type of technology was brand new for the time and it's fascinating how much of it has survived to this day. whereas nowadays we take the technology for granted.
