This film definitely represents a high water mark for practical special effects; I don't know if it gets better than this. Everything in it feels so damn real, and that just amplifies the horror of being trapped on a planet with hundreds of bugs that want to use you as an incubator. This film also presents James Cameron in peak form, providing his signature mix of sci-fi tech cool with electrifying action and suspense. It really is a joy to watch his films of this era. Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, Lance Henricksen, and even Paul Reiser. Amazing 80's cast.

I miss Ridley Scott's attention to detail. It almost sank the movie before it even got released, but it eventually paid off because atmospherically, this movie is flawless. It took three different releases, but I think it finally ended up with the right cut to do it justice, sans voice over, and with the right cues in place. It was like a distilled spirit, it had to mellow over time to be appreciated properly.

This used to be my favorite Wes Anderson flick, until Gwyneth went on to become Goop-ified, and now I can't really see poor Margot the same way anymore. It does still have that old Wes Anderson feel to it, though, you know? Like this was the real deal, and everything he has done since then has felt overproduced, like he's been imitating his own style, somehow. The characters in his films have certainly not been this good, since. Sadly marks the last time that Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson wrote a film together. Was it that collaboration that made early Wes Anderson films so good? I'd like to see another one, just to be sure.

This is a film about being an asshole. It's about being an asshole, realizing (eventually) that you are an asshole, and then trying to not be an asshole anymore. It will mean more to former assholes, especially former <i>teenage</i> assholes, who remember the long, mortifying process of learning all about how much of an asshole you really were. Plus it has a great soundtrack.

Rated The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 6/10

This film marks the first time that Wes Anderson's tried-and-true "flawed man tries to make good" formula starts to falter. Despite the usually wonderful Bill Murray, I think that Zissou is just not as engaging a character as Royal Tenenbaum or Max Fischer, and he just fails to keep you on his side. Because of that, it's a little harder to accept his eventual redemption arc, as it doesn't really feel like he's earned it. Cate Blanchett, tho.

J'aime décidément beaucoup ce renouveau du DC cinematic universe (si on peut qualifier ça comme ça). J'avais déjà bien apprécié Superman l'année dernière. Le film Supergirl est probablement un peu en dessous de Superman à cause de certain moments qui m'ont fait un peu souffler. Mais il n'y a pas photo, je préfère infiniment le personnage de Kara à celui de Clark. Elle a une classe folle, si je pouvais avoir le quart de sa force mentale haha 😆 Elle est pleine de ressources, bien fun et là pour casser des bouches quand on la fait chier. J'ai en revanche eu un peu de mal avec Ruthye même si je peux comprendre sa situation. J'ai cru comprendre que le comic originel est bien mieux raconté.
