An unbelievably stupid movie sold by an amazing cast. Tilda Swinton is intuitively hateable, Malkovich is angry and chaotic in a way where he feels sympathetic *just* long enough to set up the rest of the cast before you realize they're *all* awful people, Pitt and Clooney make the best of their rather minimal screentime by playing their smug self-important oafs right to the *hilt*, and Frances McDormand's naive, narrow-minded Linda is a fabulous linchpin for this movie about awful things happening to awful people at the hands of other, similarly awful people.And of course, J.K Simmons, despite barely being in the movie, is the guy everyone knows this movie from, and while I can never have enough J.K Simmons, he really is the ribbon that ties off this whole fucked up not-quite-Rashomon.
