Hey, remember when Rashida Tlaib, my least-hated U.S. politician and the only Palestinian-American representative in Congress, was censured for sharing a video that called for freedom "from the river to the sea" in support of Gazans being targeted for literal genocide by the IDF? What do you think GOP congressman Tim Walberg will get for *checks notes* boldly declaring we should nuke Gaza like "Nagasaki and Hiroshima" and then calling for the U.S. to end all humanitarian aid to millions of people literally suffering from an engineered famine in Gaza?

Look, Walberg's minions can cry about it being a metaphor all they like, but the fact is the video evidence available online and the fact that he suggested the same solution to ending the war in Ukraine, makes it very clear that it wasn't. There really isn't a whole lot of room to parse quotes like "we shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid" and "it should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick." This was definitely Timmy boy signaling to his cracker base (which hates Michigan's urban Muslim population) his willingness to "kill 'em all" while backing his party leader's (Trump) longstanding policy position of starving Palestinians out of Gaza by blocking U.S. aid to one of the most vulnerable populations on Earth; in the middle of an IDF genocidal campaign of collective punishment against Gazans no less.
Of course, given that murdering Palestinians en masse is officially a bipartisan policy position in American politics and the GOP doesn't do accountability in its own party, I'm willing to bet you a fresh Tang sandwich that absolutely nothing will happen to Walberg in response.

When life feels heavy, I create what I think of as a little filmstrip in my mind as I’m drifting off to sleep. I fill it with images of beautiful or comforting things, letting them take the place of the day’s hurts and tomorrow’s worries.
Here is today’s frame in the filmstrip - this was along the Lake Superior shoreline in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The height of the grass and the gray clouds along the horizon make it look like the clouds and sky are even lower than they are. It was a beautifully still day.

Down on the Crooked River in Alanson Michigan is this small little boat house/marina right next to the draw bridge in downtown Alanson.
The crooked River is part of what is known as the Inland Waterway in Northern Michigan. The Inland Waterway connects Lake Michigan to Lake Huron without traveling through the Straits of Mackinaw.

Ann Arbor turned out for the No Kings protest. All along Stadium Blvd, for miles, there were thousands of people protesting and thousands of people driving to University of Michigan's stadium for a home football game.

I’m heading into a really difficult and emotional day, so I want to carry this frame in my filmstrip now instead of saving it for when I try to fall asleep.
The sounds of the Great Lakes—especially Lake Superior—always calm me. The shorelines and surrounding land may shift and change, but the lake itself remains a constant, beautiful in every season as I stand gazing out across the water.

I just learned that the Great Lakes contain 21% of the world’s surface freshwater and 80% of North America’s. Sounds about right.
Whenever I am driving to or from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, it’s mandatory for me to go to one (sometimes both!) of the bridge view parks. On our way south today, I stopped at the park near Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse in the Lower Peninsula.
In Ann Arbor, Michigan, there was a massive turnout for the No Kings protest and march. A crush of peaceful protestors. Photos attached..
