A fluorescent green meadow that looks as though it is illuminated by sunlight, except the sky above is dark and filled with stars. One star in particular is greenish and particularly prominent. In the right is the blurry dark outline of a distant forest, a slight glow above the trees as though the sun has just gone down. Hovering above the meadow is a very large orange-gold bubble. Below the bubble, making its way through the meadow, is a hunched, dark figure holding a staff.

A large, rusty, spherical bomb embedded in a hillside. This is one of those cartoon grenades with the fuse sticking out of the side. The bomb has a smiley-face visible on one side. Approaching over the hillside are a number of people, one of which is ominously holding a shovel. The sky is a greenish yellow. A single bird circles overhead. Perhaps it will be the only remaining witness of whatever happens here.

«Peugeot» (1924)

#art #illustration #poster #vintage #graphicdesign #artcurator

A craggy mountain peak, cast red in the late afternoon sun. At the very top of the peak, appearing to grow out of it as the trunk of a tree might emerge from roots, is an odd towerlike structure that is clearly a dwelling, but looks more organic than architected. It has a winding staircase leading up to it, a small door, and two glowing windows. A few antennas are placed at the top. A blazing white sun hangs in the yellow sky. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

A rocky sphere of a planet hovers like a balloon in a bright yellow sky. The planet is tethered to a small booth with a window, like those guard stations you see in parks. A path leads up to the booth, and is then blocked by a barricade. The booth sits in the middle of a green meadow. Someone is dimly visible in the window. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

(Yesterday's late one, thanks to not having power last night)

A dim forest: evening-blue background, tall purple trees looming out of the fog. In the foreground is a ground of dark grass and the trunk of a huge tree. Hovering at the base of the tree is a glowing yellow orb, a trail of light behind it. The light it casts turns the trunk a yellowish-red. In the background are a few other, dimmer orbs. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

Astounding vol. 22, no. 3 (November 1938)

I genuinely don't know what's going on here. Jupiter, rotated ninety degrees, fine, but what's happening at the top? It's in shadow but there's a planet visible in the shadow? This is like when a star can be seen in the dark part of a crescent moon, it doesn't make sense.

Two figures in space suits in the foreground are seen on a barren surface looking out at (almost certainly) Jupiter, but seen at 90º to the ecliptic. Part of Jupiter is obscured by some dark object with a bright blue planet/object in it.

An ink and watercolor illustration of the interior room of an old cottage, the kitchen. There is a blazing hearth with pots and pans, a bench with a plate of scones, a barrel filled with more firewood, and a stool with a black cat sitting on top. Outside the window is night and a snow-covered fir tree.

A red sky with a tear in it: a blazing white and yellow streak that appears to be a rip in the sky. Below is a small house on supports with a sharp, conical roof. A path winds past the house. Next to the house is what looks like a warning sign with a red triangle on it. The ground is barren, almost volcanic. This is not a good place to be.

A small, strange figure wearing a metallic suit and giant mask stands against a reddish sky. The mask is a dull reddish-brass color, square, and made from several ragged chunks of metal welded together. It has two round holes for eyes and a smaller hole where the mouth would be. Each hole is very precisely machined, with a bezel around it. Sticking out of the right side of the mask is a small smoking chimney that looks like a snorkel tube. The figure's suit is also a tarnished brassy gold. Its arms are oddly long and thin, suggesting either a robot or an insect. A dull orange sun hangs in the sky. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".
