All the more so because I have a PhD student there right now, researching coffee production past and present in the Blue Mountains. She says her building has strong walls but needless to say I am very anxious for her and everyone she is with. Also this year’s coffee harvest! As ever, having a human connection makes it all the more real.

Hurricane Melissa now expected to be CAT4 on impact with Jamaica. Catastrophic flash flooding and landslides expected. #HurricaneMelissa #Hurricanes #Jamaica
Before/After satellite imaging in Jamaica from Hurricane Melissa; reports of 90% of the roofs gone in some areas. True death estimates and injury numbers are going to be hard to come by until communications is reestablished with those communities (the "dozens" is going to likely become "hundreds" IMHO) #HurricaneMelissa #Melissa #hurricanes
