Spring and autumn are unpredictable and capricious -- you never know if the day will be warm or cold, calm or blowsy.

But summer . . . you wake up and know that the day will be warm, then warmer, then hot, because that's what summer is: sleepy and quiet, the landscape resting under the season's heat. As we can, too.
