Since Google Maps is now misnaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, please kindly send them feedback about this error. I just did. Unfortunately you can't report a misnamed place unless that place has an address, so you must do this in the "feedback" option.
Also, consider switching to Organic Maps, a free and open source map app that doesn't spy on you.
