Garlic update: we're 5-6 weeks from harvest, after which I pile on more compost and plant bush beans to milk our long summer/fall for all it's worth. #gardening #garlic

The roses are going to fade in the coming hot temps so I tried to capture their beautiful spring colors in the early morning light today

I love the garden in early summer. #BloomScrolling #Gardening
Compost maturing in the pallet bays. I find making compost a very therapeutic process. #Compost #Composting #Gardening #Allotment
My lavender is filled with snoozing little fluffy male bumblebees snuggled up against the flowers this evening. It’s too darn cute. So, yet again, my harvest is postponed.

1. After 4 years of encouraging the growth of white clover over grass, I have finally achieved more than 50% clover in my backyard. (photo attached)
2. My dog is often fearful of what lurks in our tiny backyard--usually bunnies and robins. But today, she pranced out there like a fearless champ! (photo attached)
3. My mini wildflower meadows are blooming. It will last through Autumn, with different flowers emerging over time. (photo attached)
I finally got around to moving the compost pile for the first time in 6 weeks. I started making this compost in December and it’s looking pretty nice. It will make a good mulching compost for some of the beds next spring.
The hot compost has hit the red zone so🤞will continue to stay above 55°C for two more days when it will be turned again. #Compost #Composting #Mulch #GrowYourOwn #Gardening #Allotment
I've been feeling helpless in the face of *waves hands* everything but I finally realized I AM doing something. I've been doing something for 20+ years, in spite of limited time and energy and nearly no budget.
I'm creating habitat.
There was nothing here when I arrived in 2003. I had ambitious permaculture plans, but quickly realized a "proper" project was well beyond my resources. So I've done my best, and I'm working with what thrives here – humble plants like wild daisies and day lilies, and spirea.
Red clover, lupins, and dandelion help improve the soil. I planted apple, plum, and pear trees (the hazlenut aren't doing terribly well, so I hope I can figure them out).
The rock walls I built attract snakes. I have at least one hare (found some droppings in the garden just a few minutes ago). The birds love it here. I have a small vegetable garden, even though I'm not great at growing vegetables. But still.
The garden evolves as I do. This is one section near the compound gate, a.k.a. Outer Space as far as the cat's concerned.
I must have picked twenty #tomatoes from one #plant over the past two weeks. I wish I had someone to #share them with, because they're perfectly ripe and super flavorful.
My great-great-grandfather grew tomatoes for #survival money after he immigrated from #Sicily. The #FarmersMarket he sold them at is still around and one of my favorite places, but it's in a different place. It turns out that the local #DSA chapter meets near where it used to be.
There is a volunteer tomato plant growing in my wildflower garden. I've never grown tomatoes in that space. I'm letting it stay. Maybe it will be productive, but it will have to outcompete the nearby purple coneflowers that are reaching maturation. (photo attached)
Turk’s Cap (Malvaviscus arboreus) now blooming in the back garden.

Finally got around to visiting the gardens of my local National Trust property, Llanerchaeron, yesterday. The walled gardens are inspiring. Not that I can aspire to having a walled garden but there are some great ideas for planting combinations, techniques for growing fruit and veg etc. and a cutting garden I can only dream of but maybe could replicate on a very small scale. I also came over all emotional. It was so beautiful.
The corn is growing well!

This is the second season of my mini wildflower meadow on our front yard extension. It used to be just weeds and now it's covered in flowers. My neighbors thought I was crazy but now they are very complimentary.
#Lavendar & #catmint in #PollinatorGarden. Good companion #herb plants. Both draw in thousands of #pollinators 🐝🦋

I have a personal gardening goal to have ripe tomatoes by July 4 every year. This year I have ..technically... succeeded. 🤷🏻♀️

In this handmade abstract watercolor painting, two oak leaves in warm orange and yellow fall colors dance in an autumn breeze that drifts and swirls them through the sky.
