Last week, we asked #NewstodonFriday readers if anyone else felt sick at the thought of the U.S. election, and here we are. Not much levity in this week’s thread, but rather stories on the state of journalism and media, how different outlets plan to tackle the Trump administration, and even one about how political polarization can literally make you sick. We’ve sprinkled a little lighter fare in there, including a beautiful Tiny Desk concert from Meshell Ndegeocello (close your eyes and scroll to the bottom if you can’t bear to read any news). Every time we come to compile this #NewstodonFriday thread, we’re amazed at what indie newsrooms are able to accomplish — but particularly this week, when we were gobsmacked by two pieces of painstaking reporting, both relating to Texas: @ProPublica wrote about how the state’s abortion ban has made pregnancy more dangerous, and @TexasObserver identified an ICE prosecutor as the operator of a racist social media account. I just realized that @RickiTarr has a little over 9,800 followers which is SO close to 10,000.
I know pretty much everyone on Mastodon is already following her because she is the absolute best, but I'm hoping we can find 200 new followers to get her to 10K because I really like multiples of five and 10K is a lovely number.
